Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Case Logic DVB-80 96 CD/DVD Wallet with 40 Liner Note Capacity (Black)

Customer Review: 96? No, try 40.
Summary: 3 Stars

I decided to clear up some space in my home and do away with all the plastic DVD cases the same way I did away with my jewel cases for music CD's. I have about 5 large Case Logic CD binders and decided to go with Case Logic again due to my previous satisfaction with their binders. I certainly think I made a good decision to stay with Case Logic, but I am a little irritated at their somewhat deceptive description/marketing.

The binder is what I was looking for as far as features are concerned. I like the binder material as it seems durable. I like the zip enclosure and the soft sleeves for the DVD's. I did notice that the flap for the sleeve, which only exists for the sleeve on the right edge, doesn't stay down very well and when flipping through the binder, it will often get stuck up. This has caused some of the flaps to develop a permanent crease. I like that I can fit 2 DVD liner notes per page, which allows me to find movies based on covers pretty easily. I do wish they had made the liner note sleeves just a tidge wider though. I have some DVD's that have the cheap cardboard case rather than the full plastic ones so for those, I used a scissor to cut the front cover off to insert into the sleeve. However, I had to cut them slightly smaller than where the fold is because the sleeve wasn't wide enough to accommodate.

The main reason I had to give this case 3 stars instead of a 4 or 5, is because after counting all the movies I had, even counting for the 1 or 2 that have 3 discs (Back to The Future Trilogy), this "96" DVD Wallet should have been large enough. However, after spending quite some time removing all the movies from their original cases and placing them into the wallet, it filled up with about 15 movies left to go. Should I have counted the pages make sure before I started? Probably. Should I have read every detail and review before deciding on the wrong size? Definitely. Should Case Logic be more clear about how many actual movies versus discs fit in the case? Absolutely.

I am returning this one and ordering the same case, but in the 120 count (62 actual movies). Case Logic also counts the 16 "Fast File" spaces as part of the 96. These are basically like the car visor sleeves in two rows. I like the case, just make sure you pick the correct size for your collection.

Customer Review: Really only holds 50 titles
Summary: 3 Stars

I saw this DVD wallet in best buy a few days ago. It is really nice, but BEWARE... it only truly holds 50 titles. The 80 refers to some of the movies taking two DVDs for one title.

Customer Review: works, but why so exspensive
Summary: 3 Stars

Works as advertised, but why are they so expensive? At this price I can't afford to migrate my entire collection over.

Customer Review: Case Logic Needs Better Designers, FAST!
Summary: 2 Stars

I really need binders that can hold more discs as my collection grows and as so many new DVD releases are multiple disc sets, so I was really hyped about the release of this new 80-disc binder. Boy was I DISAPPOINTED.

I bought mine at a local retailer. But before purchasing it, I noticed that the binder came with two types of sleeves: 10 each of the old 2-disc design and 15 each of the new 4-disc design. I thought the binder was tampered with, so I started to inspect at least 6 other binders and found the same allocation of sleeves in each of them. So instead of potentially storing 100 discs (25 sleeves x 4 dics/sleeve), I'm left with only 80 max. At least it was accurately advertised as an 80-disc binder, but wouldn't it be better if it held 100? BUT, the bad thing is that the dimensions of the 2-disc and the 4-disc sleeves are different, with the 2-disc sleeve being between 1/4" to 1/2" shorter on a given side. So if you have the 2 types of sleeves interspersed in your binder, you may easily miss some of your discs stored in the shorter sleeves when you flip through it.

I bought the binder anyways. It wasn't until I started using the binder at home that I found really bad things about the new 4-disc sleeves that just totally irritated me. The openings for you to insert the discs are so minimally cut out that the only way you can take a disc out of the sleeve is to GRAB the disc with your fingers, causing fingerprints and possibly even scratches on the surface. To make matters worse, the sleeves have notches in them that I am guessing were designed to hold the disc in place so that the disc doesn't fly out while you flip through the binder. But these notches hold the disc so tightly that they make you have to GRAB the disc even harder to remove it from the sleeve. The old sleeves, though not perfect, were designed much better because the cutouts were large enough for you to stick your forefinger into the disc's hole and slip the disc out by its edges.

My only option now is to hope the current Case Logic designers are replaced with more talented and creative ones soon because my DVD collection just got bigger with the new Star Wars release.

Customer Review: Could be much better
Summary: 2 Stars

This item no longer comes in a traditional 3 ring binder style. The current style makes it difficult to remove single pages from the middle or back of the folder.

Just buy the refill pages and put them in a cheap 3 ring binder from your local office supply.
