Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables Unlimited 6-Foot HDMI Male to Male Cable (PCM-2295-06)Customer Review: Great HDMI cable - don't waste 50 bucks on premium cables Summary: 5 Stars
This cable delivers digital signals without any flaw to an HDMI capable device. It shows no degradation compared to more expensive cables. It does feel a little loose in the connections, but it does work fine. A clear winner.
I've read several reviews where the users complained about the signal quality drawing comparisons with component video as an example. I'm not an expert but what I have notices on my 2 HDTVs, 4 DVD players and 3 cable boxes is that the HDMI signal is only better than component video if the original signal is in digital format and no artifact is needed to upscale the signal. So in summary, standard definition TV will look worse with HDMI because of the up converting processor in the cable box. You can easily notice that effect by switching to the RCA cable or component for the exact same channel. If the same comparison is made with a true HD channel, the HDMI connection will blow any analog connection away.
For DVD playing, component video has similar quality to HDMI. DVD players with upscalling will have some improvement using HDMI but most of the improvement is due to the upscalling itself (try OPPO 981, it's a great player). Final comment, if you use Scientific Atlanta cable boxes, try to get a newer one (4250 series as an example). The new boxes have much faster processors and HDMI has a decent quality for standard definition channels but it still shows the upscalling artifacts on scenes with fast movement and fast color changes.
Customer Review: Buy this cable if you're smart Summary: 5 Stars
I rarely write reviews, but in this case I felt compelled to try and prevent an unsuspecting public from being suckered by the marketing campaigns of products like Monster Cable, which is no better than this one but costs five times more.
First let me say this cable works great. It appears to be substantially constructed, and gives a superb picture on my HDTV. There is absolutely no reason to spend any more money than this on an HDMI cable.
People -- wake up! This is DIGITAL technology. The only thing that travels along this cable are 0's and 1's. There's no such thing as a good 0 or a bad 1. If the bits that go in one end come out the other, then no other cable, regardless of price, quality, or overengineered "features" that no one needs, can perform better.
If you really, really, want to spend 75$ on an HDMI cable, here's my suggestion. Send me $50. I'll send you one of these cables. You'll save twenty bucks and get exactly what you wanted, which is an HDMI cable that works perfectly. As for the rest of the money, at least it will go to a good cause (me) instead of lining the pockets of a corporation that plays its customers for fools.
Customer Review: Great cable at a reasonable price Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a Playstation 3, and wanted an HDMI cable to connect it to my hi-def television. In the pursuit of this goal, I learned an important lesson: Not all budget HDMI cables are created equal. I first tried a cable from a local electronics mega-store. It was about $12, as I recall, and it seemed OK at first, but after a short while the picture would become plagued by "snow". I could push or otherwise move the cable at the back of the PS3, but this would be, at best, a two or three minute resolution. Needless to say, that cable was returned. I was set to "bite the bullet" and spend (ye gads!) upwards of $70 or more on a cable, but I saw the reviews for this cable on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did, as it works flawlessly, so far. So, my advice to those shopping for HDMI cables is to grab this one. :) Or, if you've had a poor experience with another budget-priced cable, don't give up! This item proves there are some good ones out there.
Customer Review: Danny Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is as good as the expensive over $60 HDMI cables. I wouldn't spend money on the expensive ones. First of all, I'm not a cable junkie nor an expert. However, according to my research, there's no difference in performance b/w the expensive version nor the $12, $15, $20 version when it comes to HDMI since it's all digital.. hole buch of zeros and ones. The durability of the cables... I don't know. But unless you're someone who constantly plugs and unplugs the cables for some reason, it wouldn't matter. Normally, you'd connect the cable and keep it that way for a long period of time, so the durability is not really relevant. Bottomline: This is as good as the expensive ones. I first tried out the expensive Monster brand which was $85. Then I returned it after purchasing this, for the quality was the same. Don't buy the expensive ones.
Customer Review: A great cable at a great price Summary: 5 Stars
I had an overpriced HDMI cable to compare this with because earlier when I bought my HDTV and wanted a cable "right then" I was able to buy a $60 cable half-off at BestBuy (it was open box). I completely agree that this cable does the trick at a fraction of the price. Movies played on our new upconverting DVD player look luscious. I also like the way the cable is constructed--sturdy, with a very flexible covering. The cable came with covers over its tips, as well, to protect it en route. Nice touch.
I need another cable because I just realized (duh!) that if I'm routing the cable box IN to our new home theater receiver I need another cable to route the receiver OUT to the TV, plus I want some other types of cables for the audio, and I'll purchase all of these from one of the Amazon online sellers. It's worth the short wait.
