Customer Review: Are you using a TV as a computer monitor?

I bought this cable because I just bought a new LCD TV and want to see how it can work as a computer monitor. I plugged my laptop to a computer monitor before. Everything shows up instantly like a clone monitor; I didn't have to do a thing. So I was expecting the same this time.
When I plugged it in, nothing happened. TV's PC input says no signal. I messed around with Display settings. Finally the TV is getting a signal but not showing it -- that is, the screen is still black. After further messing, wondering if my TV's PC connection is bad, suddenly, my desktop background showed up. Nothing else, though; no cursor, no open windows. Nothing but the desktop picture.
Finally, I found out from the internet that you must use your graphics driver interface inside Display settings to configure the screen.
For my TV, it doesn't handle high resolutions and stays black; when I lower my resolutions, it shows just fine. The TV shows just the desktop background as extra screen space. If you open a big window and drag it along the edge of your screen all four sides, it will eventually show up on the TV. It's very neat actually!
Anyway, my point is, it's not the cable's fault; the cable is working fine. And it's really, really thick and heavy duty. I've paid 4 times the money in the past for such cables. This is a tremendous deal, totally worth it.

Recently moved some things around in my home office...including my PC which meant my 6' monitor cable that came with it was too short...rather than use an extension cable because I've heard they are not as good as an option due to loss of signal strength etc., I opted for this as a replacement cable. I looked at several others in the 10 foot range...read somewhere over 12 feet and you start to lose signal strength and I just needed a couple more feet. The others I looked at...a Belkin for over $20.00, and another for $4 bucks and change...neither had Ferrites and this one did for around $8. Tiger Direct sent it so fast I almost found it on my door step after I hit Place Order on Amazon.com...very nice. I have a big 21" Nokia 445PRO from a long time ago...and this cable give me a nicer picture than the original cable that came with the monitor...no Ferrites there on the original either. Reliability is no small thing. A faulty cable connection can make one suspect all sorts of failures in the attached components and can cost someone a lot of wasted time trying to diagnose the problem. This one now connects a CPU's USB port to the USB connection on my monitor, so that I can use the extra USB connections that are part of the monitor's perks. Their positioning makes certain connections neater and more practical than those on the back of the CPU or those in my attached small hub. Having a cable that worked immediately and continues to work just makes life that much easier. Cables to Go was out of this cable when I went directly to their site, but Amazon had exactly the Cables-to-Go cable I wanted readily available. I looked at so many more expensive cables (super dooper gold plated...blah blah blah), but got this one hoping it would be fine for what I needed. It is more than fine - it does the job and then some. I have no complaints AT ALL about the picture quality - it is simply great. We originally got the cable to display our travel pictures for friends on our LG LCD screen, but have liked this cable so much, we have begun downloading movies and TV shows to our laptop and playing them back through the cable. Amazing. The cable has an audio plug too, so the sound can run through the TV as well. Don't hesitate - this is a great product and is reasonably priced. Like I write in the title I use this from my laptop to 32" LCD TV! Only reason to do so is to play Netflix instant movies from the "net" without having to watch them on the laptop's 15" screen! At 10' I can pretty much place the laptop anywhere I choose.
You'll need a 3.5 stereo audio cable to tranfer the sound. It plugs into the earphone jack on the laptop.
You could just as easily do the same thing with your desktop PC to your LCD TV, so long as you have the connectors match up.
Lastly, it is a way to use your TV as a monitor, whether or not you play movies.
