I got this IR lamp to support our Sony SR45 for night vision video during our paranormal investigations. We used it for a tripod mounted camcorde that was stablized in one place shooting down a large hall. It worked wonderfully well at lighting the room. Our night vision shots looked almost like we shot them during the day light hours. The lamp does need a plug in power sourse but could be modified to accept support from battery power. The IR light does defuse and reflect off the wall paint so you get good back lighting also.
Our last investigation we ran it for 10 hours without incident. It cooled off quickly and is very portable. It worked so well We may get a second one to use in a second area. If you need to light a large area for night vision this is a good product.
