Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CH Products Fighterstick USBCustomer Review: Wow, very satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I used a Logitech Wingman since 1999 and the thing finally deteriorated to the point of not being able to use it. When I started looking around for a replacement, I found the Microsoft Sidewinder interesting. But the fact that they don't make them anymore I found to be a downer. Instead I decided to make the big jump and get a Fighterstick and I am glad I did. First, the Fighterstick has excellent range of motion. The thing probably moves 45 degrees left, right, forward, and back which allows for very fine movements if need be. I play Aces High with this thing and have mapped out many controls to the joystick. This has allowed me to be much faster the having to use the keyboard for lots of stuff. I think I have an average size hand and the buttons are well placed. My only gripe is that the hat switch is a little far away for my thumb to reach with ease. I've always prefered to use the number pad for looking around anyway, but if you are a fan of the hat, this might be a problem.
Perhaps my biggest reason for buying it is te reputation of CH, which is quality. This thing is screwed together and uses heavy gauge plastic. The thing feels like you could drop it off a building, pick it up and start playing again. This sturdy construction does not take away from how comfortable it is. At first, I thought they could of done better with the ergonomics. But now that I've been using it for a couple weeks, I don't notice any comfort problems. I have seen some reviews mention the placement of that red button on the bottom front side of the stick and that it can get in the way of white nuckle flying. I personally don't have a problem with it. I've actually mapped it out to my microphone and I think it's pretty handy.
Now that I have it, I can't see how I got by without it. Its shear capability in combination with its solid contruction make it a must have for the serious flight sim gamer.
Customer Review: looks aren't everything Summary: 5 Stars
Being a long time flight simmer and after using many different joysticks, throttles and pedals, I finally tried this one. With my last stick being the TM Cougar, I learned to appreciate softer springs, precision and overall reliability. Most of these were missing with my one year old Cougar which now seems was all about looks. Being made by dedicated flight simming accessories company, CH Fighterstick seems to be one of less known secrets of hardcore sim crowd. At first, I was suspicious because of its plastic feel. The stick is big enough even for large hands, while people with smaller hands may find it somewhat uncofortable. Springs are very light. This is a plus for me, as it allows higher precision, especially near the center. You don't get to wrestle the springs during your flying. It has great throw, so there is a lot of room for precision input throughout the range of motion. Trim wheels for both axes help even in simulations without trim controls. Smart stuff. There is a throttle wheel at the base of the stick. If you have a throttle, this wheel can be mapped to another function, but you won't be able to reach it without letting your hand off the trottle or stick. Software is excellent and it actually rivals the software being shipped with the Cougar. As with the stick itself, at first it looks toyish. After a while you learn its huge capabilities. Verdict: The best high end joystick out there - precision, programming abilities, reliability and simplicity being its trump cards.
Customer Review: Great Joystick!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This the Best joystick I've ever owned.I've had a lot of different ones over the years. The best one I had befor this was the Thrustmaster ones that I still do use.The main difference between the Thrustmaster ones is that they have a very very hard spring ,that even tho is very strongly build can make anyones hands and arm get very tired and sore after any long use plus you need to strap down the base otherwize the spring tenson is so strong that to pull the stick in any direction just lifts the whole base and unit right off the desk. The CH Products Fighterstick is a pleasure to use. It's very well built, has tons of fully programable buttons and the Biggest suprize that I got once I placed the unit on my desk was that the spring tenson was so smooth and light that I can quickly throw the stick in any direction with no pull of the base at all!!!! Wow!! This is Great!!!You would have to realy push the stick to the very extream limits of it's movement to cause the base to lift.If you do that sort of thing just use a little double sided tape to place a small square of Velcro to both the base and desk to hold back even this extream movement. It's a big joystick, I have large hands and it's still seems a bit big but I feel totally comfortable useing it for long perionds of time with no hand or arm soreness.Overall a high quility and very enjoyable joystick to use.
Customer Review: Best joystick ever Summary: 5 Stars
Probably the best joystick ever made. It cannot be compared to other joysticks that wear out or snap in half in 3 weeks. Don't bother with Logitech or Microsoft. Gravis used to be good. If you can get a Blackhawk digital, I recommend it. Nothing beats the Fighterstick though.
It has more buttons than you can even think to use. It has a heavy base so you can set it on your desk and have one hand free, instead of cheaper joysticks where you have to actively hold down the base to keep the thing from doing a flip.
I cannot stress how well it's built. This joystick will last through a nuclear explosion. If you want to get a 10 year old a joystick for a game he won't like in 2 months anyway, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a performance piece of equipment that will probably outlast you, get the CH Fighterstick.
I do have a few grips:
1. It's BIG. It would stand to be a bit smaller. I find myself having to stretch out my thumb or finger sometimes. It's manageable though. I would say I have medium sized hands.
2. There is barely any spring in the base. It's very easy to turn, almost too easy. Not sure if there's a force feedback option with more resistance, but I personally like a joystick that takes a bit more effort to turn.
That's it! Hands down the best joystick made.
Customer Review: Best Joy Stick on the market Summary: 5 Stars
I just ordered a new one of these today, I've been waiting for several years to get a new one - trying to convince my wife I needed it.
This is the best joystick i've ever had, my old one which I bought in the mid-90s finally died on me a couple of years ago. It wasn't the hours and hours of gaming which killed it, it was the trip from New Zealand to the US, where the movers didn't have it sitting upright, but rather, jammed down on the one of the axis for 2 months in transit. Argh! It stopped centering and made flying impossible.
Still, for about 13 years this joystick took every bit of punishment i gave it. I used it for racing games, motorcycle games and of course numerous flight simulators, such as Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. The beast never missed a beat, every button still clicks like it's brand new.
Thus when it came to finally retire the old one I had no hesitation in getting the latest USB based version...I can't recommend it enough.
