Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go Impact Acoustics 40430 Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit - BlackCustomer Review: Well thought out and very high quality Summary: 5 Stars
I bought mine a year ago for the same great price as today, and I'm just getting around to installing it. When I opened the box I was immediately impressed with the quality of the device, the controller box is sturdy metal with screw mounts and screws, and the fittings and ports are first-rate - no cheap plastic here!
The item has 1 input channel port and 6 dual-output channel ports, so that one device can control up to 12 components, but comes configured with only two output wires (x 2 outputs per wire), to control 4 components! If you can position one IR output near two of your components, after possibly re-stacking your components, you may be able to control 5 or 6 components with this product alone!
All the cords (power, input transponder, 2x output transponders) are at least 8 feet long, making installation simple. The IR repeaters have built in gum backings, and they suggest that you stick the repeaters to the inside DOORS of your stereo housing. After sticking down my repeaters, I used electrical tape to route the wires to the edge of the door, and added electrical tape right next to each output so I won't lose the positioning when/if they detach. The IR outputs are OPPOSITE from the sticky side of the output transponders. This works great for me because the doors of my component system are solid wood. If your component system has glass doors, you may prefer repeaters that stick directly to the IR windows on your components (IR outputs on THE SAME SIDE as the sticky side of the transponders.)
In general these products are great because my components are so close to the floor, that I can reposition the IR pickup higher (so that I can now control my system more easily when I am laying flat as a couch potato!)
The one downside so far is that - for the moment - there is a cathedral window in my living room that lets light into the room, and the IR repeater is occasionally picking up light from the window and producing weak blue flashes as a result. When I get my blinds repaired, I hope this problem will go away.
The only way to improve the product would be to add a remote on/off switch, or to have an IR signal that powers the repeat on/off, which would be a very simple software change !!
