Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go 7 Port USB 2.0 HubCustomer Review: works well Summary: 5 Stars
i've been using this product now for about a month and i'm quite satisfied. many times, i'll buy a product and think it's okay and not leave a review but this little tool is worth recommending. i use it with my desktop though it's small enough to take with you and use with a laptop if you need a lot of usb ports for whatever. one reason i'm glad i read the reviews on this site is that another product had a really short cable and so it hung (!) from the desktop's usb port! can you imagine that? so i skipped that product and came upon this one. the cable that one uses to connect this hub to your desktop is long enough so that it won't be an issue. on my desktop, i just place it on top of my case. the cable is long enough for me to do that but you could just as easily place it on your desk. second, it can be powered from your desktop OR by the enclosed power cable and i like having that option. third, having 7 usb slots is just fantastic. i don't have to unplug anything to add something else. it works like a charm.
Customer Review: Best item for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
Expand your 1x USB hub into 7 - its great for all those accessories! I saw "lesser" units (4 port plastic junk) for way more $$ at local staples. This Al 7-port hub is great for home setups and/or laptop travelers! Pros: Good weight (won't tip and tilt), can install base on your desk at home, and you can still take the port section with you, if you need it traveling. I like it for wireless mouse/keyboard / ipod / camera etc. No need to pay extra $$ to have the extra USB ports installed on the computer directly. Plug-play - it works, no problems! Power cable comes with it, but it will operate off the USB power (ie your computer), so if you're out of power outlets, no problem. USB cable with it is about 24" long.
minor point to be aware of: if you leave this hooked up to a laptop, the blue light might burn down your battery overnight - even if the computer goes into sleep mode....disconnect the USB if you're trying to save battery power! Can you tell i left it connected?! Buy it, you'll be pleased with it!
Customer Review: Not one to normally review... Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not one to normally review products that I purchase, but after being as satisfied with this usb hub as I am, I thought that I'd help spread the word.
I'm a freelance web-developer and gadget junky, and do all of my work from either my iMac or my macbook. I use a Freeagent Go hardrive (not the firewire mac version), an iphone, an ipod (more songs than space on the phone), a trackball mouse, 2 printers and a cooling dock for my laptop. With all of my past usb hubs, I've felt significant loss of speed for any 2.0 devices plugged into the drive (regardless of whether or not the hub is advertised 2.0), but using this CablesToGo hub with its external power source, all of my devices - ALL - perform at their normal speeds without any transfer loss. Not only is this an amazing performing device, it looks great, and as others have pointed out, is sturdily built to top things off.
I'm very happy with my purchase, and will definitely turn to CablesToGo in the future for other related products.
Customer Review: Does what its supposed to do well Summary: 5 Stars
About a year ago, I switched my home office computer from a desktop to a laptop. I don't have a laptop dock yet, mainly because I have not been able to find one that supports my monitor well. But anyways, I ridiculously put up with connecting/disconnecting a mouse, printer, and 3 external hard drives for a few weeks until I realized I can't be doing this anymore.
Found this gadget and I am happy. I've had this for a year and it does what it needs to do and I have had no problems with it. A few comments:
1) It's smaller than it looks in the pictures. This may be a pro or con to each individual person.
2) The blue light doesn't bother me. It's not THAT bright. I tuck this device away behind my desk and perhaps that is why it doesn't concern me.
3) Never had a problem with a single port. I have something plugged into every port pretty much 24/7 and never had to re-adjust a single port. It's been very good to me over the year, a true plug/play device.
Customer Review: Great performance but short-lived Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this item because I recently added a Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive that needed power and my current hub could not handle this. This hub does and does it beautifully. I have 5 other peripherals attached to it in addition to the hard drive and have had no problems. Installation was a breeze as everything worked immediately upon installation. The hub is sturdy, well made, looks nice and is very small. A great value for the price.
UPDATE FEB 2010 !!!! Great product while it lasted. Within about 6 months of use, the USB ports on this hub started to fail intermittently so I would get connect errors on the peripherals that were attached to it (like your mouse stops working ...) then it also stopped feeding power to my Seagate Hard Drive which was the reason why I bought this hub in the first place. So my search for the ultimate POWERED hub continues ... Amazon does not allow editing or changing of the star-rating otherwise I would have changed it to 2 stars !
