This is a great little device and it looks nice. I simply needed a 5 port POWERED hub and this had 7 and just looked like it would match my black and grey computer. It did all that I wanted it to do and I have used it for 6 months now almost constantly.
I used this on a Laptop with XP and also Vista and now on my Desktop. It is small enough to not take up any space on my computer desk and it also has the ability to be mounted. There are two small screw holes in the base and the screws are included. The hub slides securely onto the base so you can still take it with you if you need it for your laptop.
You can use this as a Powered or unpowered hub and all you need to know is that anything that needs power through the USB port will most likely only work if you plug the hub in.
It matches the HP design perfectly, Black on Grey... same materials it seems too. It also has a nice blue light that matches the blue lights in my case, and most peoples cases.
I simply plugged it in and that was all it took, windows did the rest.

I bought this hub to work with my laptop. I recently got rid of my desktop so my I made my laptop my main system for the while. That said you can understand the need for more USB ports.
The design is sleek and comes with a bracket that you can secure to a desk, or whatever you decide to bolt it on to. The hub itself is very durable, heavy and solid. Maybe the only con, in that you will have to pay a little extra for the weight (shipping)as opposed to the alternative USB hubs. The black with the silver and the BLUE light at the centre looks really good for those of you who want something that looks as good as it works.
I have had it for a month now, and it works great. So far no problems whatsoever. In fact I find it very responsive the moment the system boots up / when I plug in another device etc.
Overall it is great, does what it says it does, and looks great as well. Very durable which is an additional benefit from other hubs. I am very pleased with my purchase. Hope this was helpful for anyone considering purchasing it!

I have to agree with Carl Scharenberg's review!
After searching for the "perfect" hub, I found it here. I mounted it under the shelf above my laptop and it looks real good. The only thing I am wondering is why they sent tiny machine screws to use for mounting. I used a couple of countersunk wood screws instead.
I plugged in the power supply, and the cool blue light came on. Next I shut down my Dell Latitude D531 laptop and plugged in all of the USB cables that run my CanoScan scanner, Seagate 250 gig external harddrive, wireless mouse, external CD/RW drive, HP laser printer, ThinkPad laptop (it shares my printer), 35-in-1 digital camera card reader, and my USB Powered and Most Efficient Aluminium Cooler Pad. With everything plugged in, I still have one port left empty for future use. You can also piggy-back another hub if you need more ports.
I turned on the Dell, and it found all of the "new" peripherials in about 45 seconds. This hub is truly plug & play. It's very well designed, and works flawlessly. You won't find a better one.

When I first recieved my hub from Amazon/Cables To Go ,I was excited to hook it up and use it for a couple of accessories I had to plug into it ! Well I had read the reviews and the main complaint I read about was that the blue lite was way to bright ,some said it was blinding ,others said it wsa so bright they could use it for a night lite . Well my PC color scheme has blue lighting ,my keyboard is a Logitech G-15 in which all the keys are backlite in blue. Would'nt you knoww it the lite on my new hub was non-functionial I tried pluging it into differant sockets and still no light. Well I right away sent an email off to Amazon Customer Service and the gave me a return postage paid reciept to returrn the one I recieved and said they would send a new one to me ! I recieved the new one the very next day and the light did work on the new one. Let me tell you the lite is in no way a distraction or to bright ,I cant believe how much some exaggerated about the lite. Its a a great Hub and I would recomend it highly to others !

I've got two of these now, one in my MacBook Pro setup and another attached to my wife's iMac. Mine is plugged into AC as well, hers is not; no problems on either system. Having gone through a number of other hubs, this is a pleasant surprise.
The addition of a sliding tray for the hub is a great idea, but note that the hub in no way locks or clicks in place when it's in it, so you won't be able to mount it vertically (e.g., attaching it with velcro to the side of a desk, etc.) unless you bypass using the tray (which comes with two mounting screws), so not a big deal there. But it's an odd omission.
One complaint: the blue light. I understand the necessity of a "I'm getting power/I'm connected" light on a device, but the blue light on this illuminates very brightly. Usually not an issue but if you have your computer in a bedroom, note that you'll need to shut down your computer (and not just sleep it) in order to have that light go off. (And that blue light seems to be on every device these days, eh.) Just FYI.
