Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub

Customer Review: Simpy ideal for gaming consoles
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm the new owner of a PS3 for the past couple of weeks. I was looking for a USB hub to allow me to plug in the USB IR which comes with the Nyko remote as well as an external hard drive. I tried an older hub I had, a new top-line Belkin (Belkin USB 2.0 Plus Hub (7 Port) F5U307-BRN), and looked at another 10-20 units.

My old hub wasn't 2.0 so that was out. The new, fancy Belkin worked great but the design was all show and no actual functionality. It didn't say put, the so-called cable manage piece didn't actual "hold" and of the cables in place, and the one-sided ports meant I had to make all the cables front facing as the UCB IR needed to be.

I order this USB Hub, and I could not be happier. It is right sized, very sturdily built, stays anchored, and has both front and rear facing ports. I am simply blown away by the quality in every aspect of this USB hub and at a price similar/less then the other hubs I was looking at.

If you are looking for the best made, best design, most functional and cool looking USB Hub I've seen or used, look no further than this one.

Customer Review: Best Hub I've Used
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this a couple months ago on the strength of the reviews here and for its size and price. I have not been disappointed, so I'm adding my own (exacting) stamp of approval. The design serves its function. I use mine with an iMac, and it comfortably sits on the iMac platform base. It conveniently has ports on the front (3) and rear (4), which works perfectly for my needs: I've got peripherals plugged into the back (printer, external hard drive, iPod hookup) and use the front jacks for temporary connections (a flash drive and the cable for my camera when I upload photos). With the cables positioned properly the hub stays put and doesn't slide around as I've experienced with another hub. (There is the option to screw it into a desk or stand, but for me this isn't necessary.) The construction is metal and, as others have noted, solid. Its solidity, in fact, exceeded my expectations even after having read others' comments on this before purchasing. The blue power indicator light is brighter and larger than I would make it, but in a lit room it's not a distraction for me. I've used a couple other hubs and they didn't come close to this one and certainly weren't any cheaper.

Customer Review: Good little USB hub

**UPDATE: I have just moved to Vista x64 and can attest that this hub does not cause any problems. A previous reviewer noted this hub may cause lockups using x64. My laptop sleeps and wakes just fine. Must be a MS thing. I will be buying another for my wife's laptop shortly.

This hub is nifty. No problems for me so far...

pros: Nice shape and finish. Sturdy design. I like the fact that it has 4 ports on the rear and the other 3 up front. Makes it so that all the wires are going back instead of forwards. I plugged it in using vista x86 and everything went fine. The removable hub from the base is an awsome idea. I use it on a laptop at home and can take it with on the go!

cons: Charger input to hub is kinda flimsy, but stays. Blue light on top could be annoying for some but I like it because it's not on the front blinding me.

I read a review on this somewhere here that the hub slides off the base too easily. Well I don't know if the company addressed this issue after the fact, but it comes with a stick-on pad for extra resistance that works really well. I would definitely reccomend this hub to anyone.

Customer Review: 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub Aluminum
Summary: 5 Stars

Operates exactly as advertised.

This product is not generally available outside of Amazon. And the price is right.

I use it, permanently attached, on the underside of my home-made laptop desk. This way I can merely unhook one single USB connection on the PC in order to disconnect the several backup HDD's, Palm cradle, etc. when the laptop must serve as a portable. Saves wear and tear on the other three USB ports on the computer - which, ofcourse are free and available. I also have a USB cable dangling from one of the ports on the HUB - for the heck of it.....er, for the cameral or GPS or whatever may need to be hooked up.

Nope, no installation required since WinXP (Home) has the necessary drivers. Its straight Plug 'N Play.

The subtle blue LED light is a nice touch; in my case the light reflectts off the light colored carpet since the hub, as I mentioned, is installed upside-down on the underside of my work table.

The 110V transformer helps power all the USB connections, alleviating power draw off the PC.

A very wwll designed, useful gizmo.

Customer Review: Great USB Hub
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this USB hub to supplement my laptop's 3 USB ports, dock's 4 ports, and monitor's 2 ports. So many USB devices these days! Anyways, the hub is very well made, and feels solid and sturdy. The case is solid aluminum, but does not bend inward if you apply pressure to it. I think it's much better than the cheap-feeling plastic hubs.

I also liked that the USB ports are decently spaced apart, unlike on the Kensington dome model. While the Kensington dome hub is more aesthetically pleasing, the spacing does not work, because not all USB devices are "permanent". What I mean by this is that certain devices, such as USB flash drives are meant to be removed. With this hub, I have it mounted vertically on my bookcase, so that the devices attached to the bottom are corded and permanent, while the devices attached to the top are my two flash drives.

Unfortunately, the included screws are flat-tipped rather than self-drilling (pointy tipped). Of course, you can buy the pointy-tipped screws for 15 cents a piece at a hardware store, but it's still bothersome.
