Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub

Customer Review: Great Buy
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got this hub from Amazon today, and it's exactly what I was looking for. There are four USB ports in the back, along with the power connector and the computer connection, keeping all those cables out of the way. The three ports on the front are easily accessible and well spaced. The unit is heavy and stays in place. Before ordering, I noticed that many reviews mentioned that the hub shipped with flat-tipped mounting screws that weren't very useful and that the hub easily slid out of the mounting plate, making it impossible to install vertically. Apparently CablesToGo heeded this feedback because now the hubs are shipping with self-drilling wood screws and a pad that "will cause enough resistance between the base and the hub to prevent the hub from sliding off."
The 3 foot USB connection cable it ships with may be a little short for some situations (or much more than you need), and the blue LED on top is unnecessarily bright. The LED isn't much of an issue since almost everything connected to my computer has one or more unnecessarily bright LEDs.
I would definitely recommend this to any one who is looking for a powered hub or one with more than four ports. In fact, I already have recommended it to my coworkers. Even if you don't need 7 powered ports, this is still a great product and a good value to consider.

Customer Review: Very happy with my purchase decision!

I did a lot of research before buying my next USB 2.0 hub. I'm sure you're thinking, its a hub, what's the issue... well, its like this; not all USB 2.0 Hubs are created equal!

I run Mac devices and have a few iPods that sync with my MacBook Pro. My previous USB 2.0 Hub failed and I wanted to buy something that wouldn't fail. I have 2 other brands of USB 2.0 hubs and have to say that this one was very well engineered. Its configuration is perfect. I have it mounted on my sliding keyboard drawer where I have iPods, Audio devices, camera's, and more plugged into my MacBook Pro. Mounting this to my keyboard tray enables me to semi-permanently attach a wire-management system keeping all the connectors and wires out of sight. The rugged aluminum construction and sleek design enabled me to mount it away from the bulk of my work and attach 4 USB devices from the rear and route the cables to a discrete location leaving the three ports in front wide open for ad-hoc addition of ancillary USB devices.

I love this thing, best USB hub I've bought. The fact that its powered ensures I have a constant USB 2.0 connection. I plugged the hub into my UPS for consistent power supply even during storms and power outages.

Great choice, excellent design, construction quality and function... well done!

Customer Review: Meets my needs, but maybe not yours

My 2008 iMac has only 3 available USB 2.0 sockets and I have a number of USB peripherals. Obviously I needed a hub expander which I had put off for some time. After reviewing a number of choices, this seemed a safe bet. Other reviewers gave me some concerns since they had problems which seem to be either PC/MS related, network, related, or personal preference. It works fine with the iMac. My only problem was with my now ancient flatbed Microtek scanner which only cooperates if plugged into one of three dedicated USB ports on the back of iMac. One is needed for the keyboard/mouse, the remaining one for the 7 port hub. I like the clean look and design, but it is ruined of course once you fill it with cables. I, too, don't like blue LED pilot lights staring me in the eyeball. In addition to this one, I have two external hard disk drives that have them; but all three lights are blocked by the iMac, so it is a non-issue. If it bugs you, block it or cover it with something. How creative does one need to be?

It would be very handy to pack with my portable, but I no longer travel as much, so this unit is a fixture behind my desktop machine. I haven't tried it without the included power adapter, so can't comment on how it performs without it as some people seemed want to do. I would consider buying another if needed.

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently purchased this item and in fact just got it in the mail today. I searched for a while trying to find a USB hub that was Vista compatible. I had read about some people running into compatibility issues with their Vista and USB hubs but seeing that over 200 people had already bought this item and assuming that at least 50% of these people may have had Vista, I went ahead and bought this.

So far I haven't had any problems with the hub. I simply plugged the USB it came with to the port on my laptop (which only cam with two USB ports) and the computer recognized it and installed the required drivers automatically. No problem.

As soon as the hub was recognized, I attached my mouse, two printers (one laser and one deskjet), and a jump drive to it and they were all instantly recognized. I used all four to see how they work and they work just fine.

The user manual that comes with the hub does not even mention Vista among the System Requirements (perhaps printed before Vista) but the packaging on the outside clearly states it supports Windows Vista as well as Mac OS X or higher.

Some reviewers have written about their irritation with the blue light but I actually think it is pretty cool. It is a good hub (so far) and works just fine.

Customer Review: The Almost Perfect Hub
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great USB Hub. It works great. Like the other reviewers, the blue light can be annoying, but if you position the hub nicely, it can add a nice glow to a dark room. It's great for traveling because you don't need to use the power adapter constantly, but when you're at home, I suggest using the power adapter as it will make the USB Hub have faster connection speeds (if you use the Hub to play Rock Band, the power adapter is a must). If you have an iPod and are using this Hub to connect it, use the power adapter as the computer might not supply enough power to the Hub to charge your iPod. A lot of my friends who needed a USB Hub bought this Hub at my suggestion and they love it too.

It's small and portable. Size might be an issue for those with large USB peripherals. On one side, there is 3 USB Ports which have ample room for whatever you need to connect, on the other side, there's 4 USB Ports which have limited space.

The dock for the Hub isn't really needed. If you do decide to mount the dock somewhere, be careful since the USB Hub slides out of it quite easily. If you don't need to grab it and go from the dock to work (or something), then some double-sided tape will help the Hub stick in place.
