This cable is the same price as a lower quality 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable that would be used with the headphone jack, except the sound quality from the dock cable is much better. This cable creates a line level connection between the Ipod and whatever you're using it with, so the volume is preset for optimal sound quality. Less hiss and static, and the bass response is much better than the normal headphone cable deal. I read ALOT of reviews and most of them stated to not have worked with 2nd GEN iPod Touch. Well I just wanted to let everyone know what worked for me. I have the 1st Gen iPod Touch and it worked great. The sound is loud and crisp. This cable also works on my iPhone 3G. Pretty cool too. When I connect it to my iPhone the volume control disappears because you don't need it. It's a true line out source. This product is great! My new car came with a 3.5mm jack, so I just used this cable to hook up my iPod to my car stereo. It's very simple; all you have to do is hook up one end to the iPod's dock and the other one to the 3.5mm jack. Once it's hooked up, you can just control the volume from the car radio, instead of the iPod. The only thing I need to control from my iPod is the song selection. Also, the sound quality is great. This cable works great. The connector is well made and it can be easily inserted and removed. The sound level is controlled entirely by the sound equipment and not the ipod volume control and that is a good thing. The only negative thing is that you won't be able to leave the earphones connected to your ipod if you want to use this cable - The earphone jack on the ipod will eventually break by repetitive stress caused by constant insertion and removal.Customer Review: Simply does the job!

This type of cable is difficult to find in stores. The dock connection allows your car stereo, etc. to receive line-level input, which makes for a clean signal and distortion-free music output. As others have mentioned, the only downside is that the connections aren't gold-plated like the picture indicates. For a normal music lover, I doubt you could tell the difference. This product simply does what it's supposed to, and does so at a good price.
