Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go 35508 iPod-Compatible 3.5 mm to Dock Connector Audio Cable (4 Feet)

Customer Review: For this Ipod Classic owner, just what I needed.
Summary: 5 Stars

A cable that plays the Ipod (2009 Classic 160GB in my case) line-out audio is all this new iPod owner wanted.

For passing the iPod's audio through powered speakers or a car's audio system, the line-out audio source from the docking port is what you want. There seems to be a consensus online that the iPod's line-out is better quality audio, but in my case I just don't like fiddling with two volume settings. Use your stereo's amplifier to power the pure sound that (allegedly) bypasses the iPod's internal amplification circuits. (Note: on my iPod, the EQ settings are applied to both audio outputs, but SoundCheck is only used through the headphone.

I like that this company's cable is more robust than the Apple sync cable that came with my player. For use in my car, the 3.5mm AUX IN jack is in the armrest storage bin, and the cord has to be routed through a pass-through hole in the armrest. A wimpy cable (like one I recently returned to Target) would not stand up to regular use like this. (Anti-theft note: don't leave your player, or GPS, or other gadgets, in plain view -- thieves will happily target your car. Likewise the chargers, connection cords, et al -- if you leave those lying out, thieves will play a hunch that your gizmo is in the glove box or center console storage. Your windows may be smashed regardless of what's inside.)

The docking plug has little locks on it, so that the plug won't fall out easily during use in a car. This might annoy some who prefer the Apple variety of "easy disconnect," but when you're driving the connection should be secure.

Oh, and please: DON'T TRY TO OPERATE YOUR IPOD WHILE DRIVING. Pull over if you have to operate the click-wheel.

In all, worth the $12 I paid for this.

Customer Review: Great -- Get Line Level Audio Out
Summary: 5 Stars

This cable is very useful. It gives you a line-level output, so that you do not have to crank up the iPod volume when plugging it into external speakers.

If you have ever plugged your iPod (or any portable audio device)into a boom box (or car stereo, or PC speakers) using the headphone jack, you know what happens. You have to crank up the iPod volume. Later, when you plug your headphones back in, you blast your ears! Or the opposite happens: you leave your iPod volume alone, but crank up the boom box volume. Then later you switch over to Radio and get your ears blasted.

This cable solves those problems. It plugs into the iPod via its dock connector, instead of the headphone jack. This gives you a line-level signal from your ipod, which is NOT affected by your iPod's volume settings. You tend to get an audio signal which matches other devices.

Note: as other reviewers have mentioned, the connector is not gold plated, though it looks that way in the picture.

If you want to plug the iPod into your stereo, there is a similar cable that ends in Left/Right RCA plugs (instead of the stereo mini plug): Cables To Go 35507 - iPod Dock Connector To 2 RCA Cable

UPDATE 9/2008: FYI, this cable does not work with the iPhone 3g.

Customer Review: A must-have for using iPod in your car
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently ordered this cable after reading reviews here for my very first iPod (80GB silver) - I wanted to be able to get rid of cluttering cds in my car without losing any sound quality. I already had an AUX/audio cable (which I bought really cheap from monoprice dot com) with 3.5 jack on both ends to use to connect to my AUX input in car but after reading the reviews here I thought I'll give it a shot.

After I got my iPod and cable I first hooked up iPod using the old cable using headphone jack on iPod. The quality of sound was somewhat disappointing. I was expecting a better quality sound. It was not a total failure but still I had to crank up the volume to get decent loudness. I then hooked up iPod using this Cables To Go cable. The difference was AMAZING!! I instantly felt like I was listening to CD music in the car! The sound was many times better than the cable I was using to connect with headphone jack on iPod. I wish my car also allowed to changing the tracks using steering wheel controls I have on my Camry 2008 but that's something auto manufacturer should incorporate in their models.

I'd strongly recommend this cable to anyone who wants to use iPod in his/her car using AUX input in the car. The cable is of good length and material looks and feels nice and durable. Well over worth the money!

Customer Review: Perfect, just what I was looking for (UPDATED: Not for iPhone)
Summary: 5 Stars

Have been using a variety of other products to try to always get a "pure" sound when hooking my iPod up to a stereo (be it in the car, in the office, at a friend's, etc.). A company makes a neat little Docking Port add-on that you can plug in both a 3.5MM and a USB2 or Firewire 400 cable, but they're usually too large to use when your iPod is in a protective case (and who wants to remove the case every time you want to use the iPod in this manner?). And actual iPod docks are usually too expensive for "buy several" use, not to mention using in a car, and then there's (again) the issue of removing the iPod from its case.

Stumbled across this and it does exactly what it says and fits perfectly, even if your iPod is in the most restrictive of cases -- as long as you have Dock Connector Port access, you can use this item. I've gotten several; one for each car, one for the home stereo, and one for on the go (it's also very small, but you can see that from the imagery).

Try one if you think there's no difference between hooking up your iPod via the headphone jack versus the Dock Connector, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

**EDIT** Apparently does not work with iPhone (at least it doesn't work with mine).

Customer Review: Not the product that I received ...
Summary: 5 Stars

(Note that this star rating should be applied to the "Inspire 3.5mm AUX to Dock Connector Cable for iPod Nano, Video") The cable that I received provides great sound and was shipped in a timely manner. I noticed that the connector for the cable received was not gold as I remembered it being shown in the add. So when I double checked, I found that I had received a different, cheaper cable than what I had ordered but was still charged the higher price and was given no indication that there had been a switch. I followed the procedures and sent the distributor (ClearAV) an email. It took them several days to respond and acknowledge that they had shipped a different cable because the original was out of stock. I responded to the email saying that I would keep the cable and would like a price adjustment. It took a couple of more days to get a response saying that a credit would be applied. The credit was applied, but ClearAV should have included notice and credit in the shipment. I also think that it is odd that it takes them so long to respond to emails, but in the end everything was taken care of. By the way, the cable that I received was "Inspire 3.5mm AUX to Dock Connector Cable for iPod Nano, Video" now listing for $4.99.
