Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go 13423 Serial ATA to External Serial ATA Dual Port Adapter (Nickel)Customer Review: eSATA Bracket Summary: 5 Stars
This eSATA bracket was what I needed. The cables are about 15-16 inches in length and were able to go around my two BFG GTX 280's to the on-board SATA ports on the edge of the board. I have this in my first pci slot and my video cards are in the next four. I had one that was too short because I had to move since I bought a pci-slot cooling fan. The speeds of eSATA beats firewire and usb by a long shot. Not only are the speeds great, but the cables are nice and sturdy. Also, the connectors are solid and will stay in place. The only thing is that they're kind of fat, and you might not be able to put both on top of each other in a 90 degree SATA port. Being able to add/remove drives safely that are connected by eSATA , and make eSATA hot-swappable requires AHCI to be enabled in bios. FIRST YOU NEED TO DO SOME REGISTRY MODIFICATION BEFORE YOU ENABLE IT IN BIOS, OR YOU WILL GET A BSOD EVERY TIME WINDOWS BOOTS UP. The following directions will help you modify you registry value in Windows 7 (its not that hard at all, but its important):
1.Exit all Windows-based programs.
2.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3.If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci
5.In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7.On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
After you do this resart your computer and then go into bios. The AHCI function should be under "intergrated peripherals", but your mother board might be different. Enable it and you should be able to use the same function for each SATA port. After that save BIOS settings and exit. Your computer will automatically restart. When I did this I got a boot disk failure which required me to reconnect my boot drive to my mother board. You may, or may not have to do this. Ounce Windows boots back up, it will have to install drivers again, so give it a like a minute. After that you have to restart you computer again. When you get back into windows, you should be able to see all drives connected by eSATA under the Safely Remove Hardware function, even drive C (I don't know why you would want to remove drive C though). Remember to always use this feature to remove hard drives and flash drives, otherwise they can become corrupted and their life span can diminish. I hope all of this helps.
