Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black)

Customer Review: 3 years later, this thing is still working great!
Summary: 5 Stars

We have a bunch of computers in the house, so having a printer connected directly to a computer, then sharing that printer off of that computer, then making sure that computer was on using 150W of electricity and logged in...eh...that's a headache.

This 2070N printer just plugs into the home network via a CAT5 cable and is assigned an IP address from the router just like any other computer on the home network. Each computer still needs a one-time driver set up. Plus I keep a copy of the driver on a network connected NAS drive - WD MyBook World Edition, so a new computer can just get the driver off of there easy-peasy.

The initial setup of the printer itself took few minutes, but that was 3 years ago and since then...no fiddling with any setup at all. The printer is quiet and does its job. Whether I'm on a wired desktop computer or a wireless laptop, hitting print just works and sends the document to the printer.

The only upkeep is buying more toner from time to time. But even then, once the toner starts to fade out a little, I order another one, but I don't replace it right away. I take out the toner cartridge, give it a gentle shake, and it's good for another couple hundred pages. Once it's truly out, it takes all of 4 minutes to change the toner out.

Customer Review: Excellent printer - I highly recommend it

I just hooked up and tested this printer and I could not be happier. Installation was a breeze. It is much simpler than it seems. The written instructions make it look more difficult than it actually is. In fact, I stopped following the hard-copy instructions half way through the installation process and just used common sense and followed the prompts in the CD-ROM. It worked perfectly. PROS: The first thing that struck me was the speed. Increadibly fast for a printer of this size and value. The second thing was the quality. The printed product is crisp and clear. CONS: None so far. I was concerned at first when I read all the reviews complaining about curled pages. I bought the printer despite those complaints because others said that either there was no curling problem or, if there was, it was not as serious as some reviewers made it out to be. From the few documents I have printed so far, I have seen no curling whatsoever. None. As far as I can tell, the complaints were unfounded. Based on my experience with this printer, albeit short, I would highly recommend it to other prospective buyers. I could not be more pleased with my purchase.

Customer Review: Easy set up, fast and nice quality, great price
Summary: 5 Stars

My main concern was getting a laser printer set up and running on our home network to be used by multiple PCs. I'm not a network admin so I needed this to be simple. I spent hours trying to get a Linksys Print Server working and then it ended up making MS Word unusable on my Desktop. After I de-installed the Print Server MS Word worked fine.

Anyways, I got a little worried when the instructions recommended to check with your network admin (not me and especially not my husband). I plugged the cat 5 cable into the printer then into one of the network jacks. Then found on about the last page of the instructions how to print the printer configuration settings. This got me my IP address which is what you need before installing the drivers. So do yourself a favor and get the configuration information (IP Address) first (push the blue print button 3 times). During the install it will ask where the printer is, select URL and type in: http://youripaddress ex. http://192.168.1.5

I got this up and working for two computers within 30 minutes (that includes dusting off the area I was putting it in).

Customer Review: Solid Performance for the Network User
Summary: 5 Stars

The quality on this printer is only average and does not quite compare with HP laser printers. However, in terms of use as a network functional unit, this is the easiest unit I've ever setup with its intuitive web interface and connection. It is extremely stable even under high load due to its built in network interface as opposed to other printers that work through a network print server device, which can become unstable when using special printing functions or when you get errors such as "toner out" or "paper out."

The interface allows network and printer administrators to configure and monitor the printer through a wide variety of metrics, way more than any home user. However, my reason for purchasing this was for high volume printing over my 6 computer network. It is simple, compact like its non network predecessor and the best network bang for the buck. I would recommend this network printer any day for any user who does not require an enterprise grade network printer, which easily cost 3x this printer!

Customer Review: Excellent network printer for a fantastic price
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this printer based on the numerous positive reviews on Amazon.com's website. I received the printer yesterday. Set-up was a snap. The printer can accommodate a USB, Parallel or Ethernet connection. The directions were sparkling clear and the Flash animated set-up on the included CD was a brilliant touch. The printer cranks out 20 pages per minute, and supports OS X right out of the box. I was able to quickly and easily configure my Macbook Pro and PowerMac G5 to print to the Brother 2070-N with no problems whatsoever.

The printer itself is solidly built - goes to sleep when not in use, and quickly wakes up from sleep when needed. I haven't noticed any page curling - prints come out solid and crisp, just like the HP LaserJet printer I use at work.

This is a fantastic laser printer for the money. For what its worth, I 'switched' over from an Epson Inkjet printer. I am extremely satisfied with the Brother 2070-N and would recommend it without hesitation. Highly recommended.
