Customer Review: Fantastic printer at a great price with many high end features

The Brother HL-2070N is an amazing printer that is affordable and yet has many features that you frequentlt only see in high end devices. Connect it to your computer from either a parallel port connection, USB connection, or through the ethernet connection. Fast printing times, and fast warm up times make this a speedy printer to behold. The included software CD has a step by step installation wizard that makes setup a breeze, even through the network connection. However if you require more advanced customization of the printer setup, it's there too. You can use the BRADAdmin software on the CD to configure the printer over SNMP, or you can simply enter the printer's IP address or name into your web browser's URL address bar to access the printer's built in web interface. From here you can configure almost to your hearts desire. And it's all secured behind a login and password for the printer. Change the NetBIOS name if you like, or print a test page all from the web interface. From there you can enter a SMTP server to use for the printer to send outgoing emails, and then you can configure notifications that the printer will send to an email address you provide. These notifications are highly configurable with many types that you can choose from. For example you can have the printer shoot you off an email when the toner OR drum is about to reach empty or near it's end of life. Conversely you can have an alert sent when it is empty or finished. There's also timed notifications so for example you can have the printer email you if the front cover has been opened for a time you set (say if it's been open for 40 minutes). As for the print quality? In my opinion it's excellent. Text comes out very sharp, and even on the default DPI and toner settings the text is very dark. The graphic quality surprised me. It's very very good even to the point of being able to print out a photograph which comes out in fine detail, clarity, and contrast. The printer driver has many useful built in features. Including the ability to print multiple pages to one page. There's a manual duplex option that will guide you through performing two sided print jobs. This printer also supports the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) which means that it can be easily configured to be printable to over the internet when it is connected via it's ethernet port to your local network. (Note if you are using a router, you will have to configure port forwarding on your router to achieve this effect. This topic is extensively covered in the networking guide associated with the printer).
The printer also has full Windows Vista support. Both x64 and x86, as well as all lower Windows versions, and Mac support too.
