Suffice the say the unit works as advertized.
I did have a problem with the first audio CD I tried in it(a Stephen King CD), but all the other CD's and MP3's I tried worked wonderfully (including King's others). The problem with the King CD's, plural, was actually with three of a four CD audiobook. However, it is important to note that the problems I encountered with them I also encountered when trying them on a Sony CD player. Although both units played the audiobook CD's fine, neither CD player could forward them to the next chapter or "start again from where I left off", they all started at the beginning of the CD again. Clearly, the problem was the CD's.
The key thing was that before I realized it was the CD's and not the machine I called the 800 number provided with the unit, twice acutally! Both times I got service quickly, once immediately and once after a minute hold, and the lady I dealt with both times was wonderful. We were on the phone together for a lenghty period of time until I finally decided to run downstairs (two flights) and get other CD/MP3's to try. She waited patiently as I did so. Once I popped those in the unit it worked as advertized.
Time will tell if the machine contiues to work as advertized, I have no reason to think it won't. The instruction pamphlet for the unit, and for the accesories for the car and remote control, could certainly be better written as they are not always clear. On the other hand, I have nothing but praise for the customer service I received when I thought I had a problem.

Get a leg up on the audiobook revolution with the Soul MP3/CD player, the first device designed specifically for the CEA/APA Audiobook Standard format adopted by Brilliance Audio. Unlike most MP3 players, which are light on audiobook-specific functions, the Soul player offers an easy and simple book navigation system, with forward and reverse skipping by title, chapter, and even page. This clever function not only makes it easier to get from point A to B, but also gives listeners greater flexibility when searching for a favorite passage. Meanwhile, users who like to listen to several books at once will delight in the bookmark function, which remembers the stopping place of your last 12 CDs. And easily distracted listeners will find plenty to like in the re-read button, which replays the previous 15 seconds of a book. And these are just a few of the functions that the Soul offers when playing CEA/APA-encoded audiobooks.Of course, even the most dedicated user won't listen to audiobooks constantly, which is why the Soul also plays traditional CDs, MP3s, and WMAs, along with audiobooks that aren't coded in the CEA/APA format (such books don't offer the same navigation features, however). In addition, the Soul boasts seven preset equalizer settings that enhance the audio quality of its files, including normal, classical, rock, pop, jazz, ultra bass, and audiobook. And the user can keep on top of their MP3s thanks to the unit's ID3 tagging, which reads the title, artist, and album information of each MP3 file and displays it on the LCD screen.
Additional features include an electronic volume control, anti-shock protection (192 seconds for CDs, 480 seconds for MP3s), and dual play modes (A mode plays all the songs/files on a CD, whereas B mode creates a playlist of up to 200 songs/files). The Soul uses two AA batteries (included), which support up to 12 hours of MP3 audio or eight hours of CD audio.
