Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Thermoscan 1-second Read Thermometr , 1-second Read-outCustomer Review: Ok, but looking for something more accurate than this. Summary: 3 Stars
I debated between this thermometer and the Exergen Temporal one. I bought this one since I thought it would be easier to use. However, the probe is too large for my baby's ear and hard to get her to let me put it in too. I also got inconsistent reading after taking multiple temperatures within second of eachother in the same ear. I end up using this thermometer as just taking an approximate temperature.
In the end, I think a swipe across the forehead might be easier. I'm going to return this thermometer and try the temporal kind.
This one is just not easy to use, nor accurate.
Customer Review: Not very accurate for infants Summary: 3 Stars
I was a ped nurse not too long before i became a mom and it is not recommened that you use these thermometers on infants. But I must say that the ear thermometers used in the hospital seemed a lot more accurate that this particular one. It is all abt technique and even someone like me still has trouble with it. My husband and I used it one ourselves and got temperatures off by a degree with several reads! It is probably more user error than a fault in the thermometer. I still think a rectal temperature is the most accurate on an infant.
Customer Review: Not reliable, but still usefull. Summary: 3 Stars
Was hopping it would work well, but.... It'll give you five different readings 5 times you try it varying by as much as 1 degree. You can also get surprisingly different results between the ears. By as much as 2-3 degrees if your baby was lying on the side. However it's still useful to do a 5 second sanity check if your baby looks red. If you do not want to stick things into your baby boys rectum, use under arm measurements. (Just mention how you measured it to your doctor & they'll know what it means)
Customer Review: This is OK but. . . Summary: 3 Stars
I would keep a rectal thermometer close at hand. I never felt that I would get accurate readings with this one. It was a great gage, but for a sick child, a rectal reading is best.
The plastic ear pieces can be a bit of a pain too. They didn't always snap on just right so that could give me an off reading. Babies squirm, and it doesn't seem that they account for that. The directions read that you have to have it in a certian place in the ear, I never found that place.
Customer Review: Good thermometer but... Summary: 3 Stars
This is a good thermometer but with any digital device you have to allow for the variance that all digital devices have, Im sure if you read the specifications it will tell you. Also, rectal temps are good but you can get the exact same result by placing the thermometer in the armpit and holding the babys arm while it is being read. This can be done with a digital thermometer also, the kind the adults us.
