Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash PadCustomer Review: Works Well Summary: 5 Stars
I originally got this for the wife but after seeing it and having my windshield mount fall a few times, I stole it.
It works well. Normal to slightly aggressive turns (on clover leafs to test it out) it holds it's place.
every now and then I noticed it moved forward and likely to fall (2-3 days), just a quick push back and all it good again. (this is probably do to me removing my phone)
The only real negative I see and this is unavoidable is that it is black and my phone is black so the phone gets very hot while driving in the sun. However, I won't want another color since I have a black interior.
TIP: speaking of black interiors. I hate the white ezpass in my new black car. I taped up the white tag (with the numbers) and spray painted the ezpass black. Then got some black velco tape and put it up the top right of the window. It blends in perfectly and works perfectly. hope this helps.
UPDATE EDIT (that was in the winter - in the summer it gets so hot the tape melts and it falls off - trying to find some good double side tape that can take the heat)
Summary: no regrets buying this item and I recommend it ... even if you live in a state were it is not required.
UPDATE: I have extended the phone caddy out over the a/c vents to help cool the 'black' phone from the sun and charging. this pops up the pad and makes it more unstable. I still recommend the pad because the 'arm' that I have created is long. I'll weight down with something ... just haven't figure out what to use.
Customer Review: Real Dimensions and other Thoughts. Summary: 5 Stars
So the dimensions listed are wrong for this item. I could tell by the coke can photo next to the Mount that it was not "1.9 x 8.6 x 9.3". So for anyone wanting them here are the actual dimensions out of the box for the current version. Hopefully this will keep people from being surprised when they buy it.
7.5 x 7.25 x 1.5. That is left to right, front to back(where the tag is), and height. The usable size of the Center flat disk where you attach your suction cup mount is 3.5 in. I'm putting up photos of all of this so be sure to check the photo sections for my tape measure.
It is Very stiff. You can hold it up by the edge of the circel and the thing will not really bend at all. If you push down on the black nylon it doesn't give much and feels like it is packed really full of small rocks. The bottom is rubberized like a gym mat and is pretty smelly out of the box although I'm sure that will go away in time.
It does it's job well and I think it's great for the price. So far I'm pleased with it. The only caveat is that my gps's power port is on the bottom which means that I had to slide the suction cup back sightly or else the ring would bock the cord from going straight up into the gps. But, worst case you should be able to raise the height on your gps stand and that would fix the problem. For the price and ability to have my gps off the windshield this product seems like a no-brainer.
Customer Review: This is a great mount and pretty much universal=) Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this mount for a Magellan GPS system and it worked great. I mounted it with no problems at all. It's just a matter of suctioning your GPS system to the mount, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist. This one is larger than the Garmin brand one my husband uses for his Garmin gps, but it still works just as well, and this one is cheaper=) It didn't move at all on my dash board, so I was completely happy with it. I will post pictures of this one compared to the Garmin brand one soon. Just so that you see the differences for yourself. I love that this one can be used on almost anything with a suction cup and the Garmin doesn't work for anything but Garmin gps systems.
UPDATE: I just tried this mount with a Tom Tom XL 340-S w/4.3" screen, and it doesn't fit properly. I finally got the gps to attach, but it was facing the roof, and that won't work. I know that it fits the Magellan and the Garmin, but the Tom Tom doesn't fit. The problem is that the arm that goes from the suction cup to the gps is too short. I hope this helps any Tom Tom owners thinking of purchasing this mount.
ANOTHER UPDATE: I purchased the Tom Tom brand dash pad sold on here and it worked perfectly for the Tom Tom system, so if you own a Tom Tom, you should probably consider it instead.
Customer Review: Great product! Highly recommended! Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this dash pad with a Garmin 285. While this pad was less expensive than some of the others on Amazon, it had the best reviews so I thought I would try it. I'm glad I did, the product is very well constructed! Tough materials all around! The pads weight and the tacky material on the bottom keep it and my new Nuvi solidly mounted on my dash. In my 2008 Honda CRV, the center part of the dash where the pad is placed is smooth plastic without any texture what so ever. The pad and device have never budged a millimeter. In my 2004 Ford F-150, the dash is textured somewhat, but again it has never moved.
My original GPS device was always attached to windshield via the suction mount. I REALLY like the convenience of using the dash pad! It can be easily transferred to different vehicles and having the ability to place it on the floorboard makes me feel better about avoiding getting my window smashed and my new Nuvi stolen (TIP: I use a small square piece of soft fleece-like black material to camouflage/conceal the GPS unit while its on the floor. The cloth also doubles as a GPS screen/sunglasses/windshield cleaner).
I my opinion you cannot beat the price, quality and functionality of the Bracketron dash pad!
Customer Review: Great Product - Versatile for any make/model GPS Summary: 5 Stars
This GPS mount will work great for ANY system. Here's how: It's a free standing holder with a heavy beanbag rim. It has a very smooth, slick, flat center disk. You simply use the suction mount that came with YOUR particular GPS system, by locking it into the center of the disk - then place the bean bag unit anywhere you want. The bottom of the unit is made of a non-slip material that assures it will sit and stay put - anywhere you choose. Adjusting the viewing angle needed is easily accomplished (again) with "your" suction mount arm. I actually place mine on my console and angle it up toward me. Storage: Since thieves commonly target cars whose windshields have a GPS suction "mark" on them (even though you've hidden the GPS) this makes placing it out of sight even better, because you just slide the entire thing under a seat. When you get back in the car - you just bring the whole thing back up and there's no re-attaching it every time. It's a little pricey, when you add shipping, but it's made well, and there's no question as to whether it will work with your make or model - if you have a windshield suction mount that is! It's black, and about 6 inches in diameter. Hope this helps. PS - I have a Magellan Maestro 3100
