Customer Review: Great, but not quite perfect

I just spent two days covering the 450 miles from L.A. to San Jose with my iPod and the TuneCast II. Since my car stereo has no tape deck and no aux in, I needed something that would let me listen to my iPod to keep me from going crazy trying to find radio stations along the coast.
The TuneCast II is almost a perfect solution for this. Since it will allow you to select any station on the FM dial it works even in busy markets like L.A. where free stations are nearly impossible to find. It couldn't be simpler to connect and setup, and with four station presets, it even takes care of traveling from area to area without having to spent large amounts of time scanning for free stations.
The only drawback I have found is that it seems to be fairly low powered. It needs an unused station to broadcast on, even a fringe broadcast is going to be enough to interrupt its signal. I also have a hard time finding a place to put it in my car. If the iPod is in the cup holder I end up having to tuck the TuneCast under my leg. If it lays on the transmission, in the storage bin, or gets too close to the dashboard I will start to get static on the radio. I have a hunch it has problems any time it is close to the car body but I haven't moved it around enough to be sure of that yet. It works great sitting on the passenger seat though (as long as the passenger isn't there. :) )
I have used one or two other FM products in the past and never really been happy with them. This one gets my 5 starts for being easy to use, providing a great quality signal that is every bit as good as any radio station, and not draining the batteries of my iPod any faster.
