I'm first going to talk about the router because that's most important then how I got it for free.
I chose this router to replace my Linksys WRT54G. My WRT54G was my favorite router but after 4-5 years it started to disconnect me from my wifi connections. I wanted to buy a Wireless N anyway and this was my first choice.
People start adding reviews saying it is causing problems, that is because there is bugs with the factory firmware (The firmware installed and shipped to you). This is what you need to do to solve all the problems. BEFORE going connecting your router, first go the the Belkin support site and download the newest firmware for this Router. Then connect your belkin and go to it's settings ( 192.168.2.1 ) and upgrade from there.
By default there is no password so just click submit if it asks you for a password.
Anyway,
I'm happy with this router. It can handle 3 PC's, iPod Touch, PSP, PS3, Wii, all at the same time. I purposely started browsing and downloading random stuff to see how much it can handle. Not even one bit of slowness did I detect. I was also connected to BattleField1943 online game whilst downloading and browsing on other devices. (I have TimeWarner Cable, RoadRunner, 20mpbs speed and 1mbit upload)
Plus all of my devices were running wireless except for one of my PC's and I set the Wireless Security to WPA2-psk & WPA-PSK With AES. That is the fastest performance I got with wireless security. And the compatibility is great. Some people have trouble finding their wifi. I found my solution to be solved when I set my router to factory settings at the beginning AFTER my firmware update and re-did ALL of my settings freshly. And haven't had any problems for 4 months.
I am using OPENDNS as my DNS provider and that is giving me an extra boost of speed and internet security. I love the client list since it will tell me who is using my internet now.
The design is OK. I don't like the color of the base. I wish the whole thing was Glossy Black. The LED lights are amazing and give it a 10 out of 10. Very easy to read and gives you a good hint of whats going on.
DON'T USE THE INSTALL CD IF IT COMES WITH ONE. It's just FULL of crap. Comes with software's you don't need. You don't need the CD at all. Just throw it away.
I hate the Login feature. It needs to be rethought and redesigned. The login feature goes by sessions. Meaning if you access the router settings with Computer A and then without logging out you go to Computer B and try to access the settings, it will say that there is another session in use with Computer A. So you have to go back to Computer A, log out and then your set. But still VERY annoying. The linksys login is MUCH better.
OK now for the part on how I got this router for free.
