I know that even when things are turned off they can still waste power so for a while I was just unplugging the whole old strip. That of course was more work than it was worth because when I plugged everything back in there was usually a problem with the cable box or the wireless router. This power strip is great because now I can just leave those couple items plugged in while still saving power on all the other junk we have plugged into it. The first month we had the power strip I saw the electric bill come down about $6. My wife and I purchased 2 of these strips to use with our entertainment center and our home office and have really been enjoying them. Other than saving you money, the best thing about these strips is that they make you think about your power consumption. By actively having to 'switch off' your power you don't leave your Blu-Ray player on all night (I'm guilty of that). The design is great too, with the simple function of the device being akin to a light switch, it's as easy as walking out of a room and turning the light off to turn off the power to your devices.Customer Review: Quality surge protector, great idea, batteries not an issue!

The remote is a great idea. I have tons of music equipment that does not have an 'off' state and can easily be turned off w/the remote now!
Re: the "non standard battery" from some reviewers; the battery is a STANDARD and NON-PROPRIETARY 12 volt A23. They are SUPER cheap and can be picked up at your local hardware store, some larger grocery stores, and even a few local convenience stores for less than 2 bucks-- they will last a long time (longer than the one it came with for sure).

We purchased this so that we could shut off power to our entertainment center when we are not using it. We purchased a couple of these and they work great. We mounted the on/off remote base by the light switch so we can shut it off when we walk out. The remote itself comes out of the base so we can keep it next to our bed at night so we don't have to get up out of bed. I think it is important all of us do what we can to conserve energy and it makes me feel good to know I am saving money as well.Customer Review: Very convenient

I learned about the power vampires a long time ago but my living room continued to steal power from me because I could not get into the habit of reaching behind the tv every night. This did it. I have my whole living room on the 6 switch controlled spots, with the help of a splitter. So I wish all 8 outlets were controlled by the switch as appose to 2 not being controlled. I put the remote switch next to the light switch so it's no problem to turn it all off for sure.
