Customer Review: Unobtrusive, perfect for my needs

I purchased a MacBook a few months ago and rapidly found out that 2 USB ports are not enough when using non-Apple peripherals. For instance, neither my external monitor nor Microsoft keyboard have USB ports, unlike both the Apple Cinema Displays and the Apple keyboards. If your accessories already provide additional USB ports, you might not need this product. But if they don't, as in my case, a USB hub becomes necessary.
I did a little research and ultimately chose this one due to its popularity on Amazon, its low price, and its styling.
It was immediately recognized by Mac OSX 10.5, and even works to charge my iPod, which was one of my concerns.
Not everyone will like the way the USB ports are laid out (around the perimeter of a square), but it worked for me. Another possible dig is the bright glowing red LED that shows it's plugged in. It might be a distraction in a dark room, but you could always just tape over it or turn it upside down if it really bothers you.
Overall, a fine product. I have been using it for around 3 months, so I can't say for certain the longevity and durability of the product, but I'm confident it will last me a long time.

The Belkin 4 Ultra mini hub is a simple, cheap, and well crafted piece of hardware. Its plug and play, works well and doesn't feel cheap of flimsy.
The hub has a single USB 2.0 port on every side of its square frame, with a short wire coming out of an angled side. The short wire can either be a great deal or a horrible design flaw, depending on what your using it for. I used the hub mainly with my Wii laying flat, connecting a WiiSpeak and keyboard. The short wire is the perfect length to place the hub directly on top on my Wii (in the downward position).
On another device, however, the hub would simply hang, and could become a nuisance or help tangle wires. If placed on the back of a desktop tower, for example, the hanging hub, with its extending wires and connected usb devices, could very easily tangle with other wires. The hub does have a small red LED, so locating it in the dark is no problem.
The construction is small, yet sturdy and well designed. I've had this product for several months now, and it hasn't overheated, fried, or simply died. A great deal at the current price.

I purchased this Belkin USB Ultra Mini Hub to use with my laptop, so that I could have one central place to plug in whatever I need to use, instead of using the ports on my laptop.
Iam not sure why in the product description it say you need a USB Cable, because there is a USB cable attached to the hub, and that is the part that you plug into the laptop, and then use the 4 ports for whatever you want to plug in.
I also didn't see in the package information that it is compatible with Windows 7, but it is.
I love that you just plug in this mini hub and you are good to go. I wish more products were that easy to install! There is a red light on the top that shows you it is working. I have my cooling pad plugged into the hub.
The price was excellent, and I have been purchasing Belkin Surge Protectors for years, in fact I just purchased 3 more a week ago, so I was familiar with the Belkin name.
The size is small, which is great. It does what it is supposed to do.

I am very happy with this hub as it is compact and just hides under a small shelf on the corner of by desk. It serves it purpose very well. I was not, however, happy with the 9 days that it took for this item to arrive at my location; it was ordered on 05/10/10, the shipping estimate was for delivery between 05/14/10 and 05/19/10 and the item arrived in our office on 05/19/10. Now, I realize that it did arrive within the estimated arrival time, however when the item was tracked it shows that the hub languished for 6 days in the Santa Clarita postal center until it was forwarded to the Van Nuys post office on 05/18/10 for delivery. Can someone tell me why this happened? Tracking the item shows that it was here (from 05/12/10) and ready for delivery on 05/14/10. I am not too sure that I would order anything from this ANTOnline again because of this delay. I love this mini hub! It has a connector cable 5 inches long, so you can't make a mess. I used to have a hub that connected to the computer with a regular USB cable, but guess what? You don't want any more cables than what it is strictly necessary. You would like this mini hub. Its size is 2 x 2 x 1/2 (inches) so it fits in any of your pockets, but not too small to easily lose it. I would say a very convenient size. I use it with my laptop, and connect simultaneously my camera, mouse, and two flash drives, or alternate with an external hard drive. The silver top cover makes it look a bit "elegant". And the price? Very affordable. In addition, no software or drivers are needed, just connect it, and it works with Linux, and Windows, and even I didn't test it with a Mac, more likely it will work with them, too.
