Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin High-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Mobile HubCustomer Review: small but not put together well Summary: 4 Stars
this was probably a fluke, but since it affected me, I still feel compelled to put it in the review. When I got my product, I immediately went to plug it in. However, when I plugged the power cord into the hub, I discovered the inner card (with all the ports and power plug on it) was loose in the outer casing. Apparently the outer case hadn't been snapped together completely. After some fiddling around though, I finally got it together, but it took a relatively large amount of force and several minutes of trying to line up the snaps just right, which was difficult since the stubborn ones were in the middle on the inside and therefore blocked from view. Just shouldn't have had to spend my time doing that.
Also the usb cord is only like 15 to 20 inches long, not enough to even go from a tower sitting on the floor to the top of the desk.
Customer Review: Fantastic . . . if your computer is on the floor. Summary: 4 Stars
The AC adapter for this hub is ridiculously short. The cord itself is roughly 32". I had to plug in an extra surge protector and place it on my desk just to power the damn thing. Someone else mentioned that it is very lightweight which makes it difficult to quickly plug things in with one hand. The weight issue also makes it more prone to twist around and slide away from you. But, aside from these minor issues, this is a great product. Haven't had any problems with its performance. It is nice to have something small and fairly portable with this many ports. As a graphic designer I use a lot of peripherals, and this product handles them all with ease. And, you'd be hard pressed to beat the price. I definitely recommend this for anyone who needs a lot more usb ports and doesn't plan on powering them on the go.
Customer Review: Perfect for travel, compact, lots of ports, but short power cable. Summary: 4 Stars
Great travel companion. Designed to be small, light, and compact. Has plenty of ports for your USB devices. Added power adapter is a plus for those power hungry devices. Only drawback, and many reviewers have said this already, is the short power adapter. If you have a powerstrip under your desk and you want the Belkin hub to sit on your desk, then the power adapter cord will be too short. You'll have to add a power extension cable of some sort. But I'm guessing the short power cable is by design. After all, this is being marketed as a 'mobile' hub. Other than that, this is a great hub for the price.
Customer Review: Small, efficient port layout, works well Summary: 4 Stars
I didn't have enough USB ports on my computer (does anyone?) and after looking at a bunch of hubs, picked this one, because Belkin products are, in my experience, of excellent quality and 4 ports weren't enough; I needed 7.
Like everyone else I find the cord length ridiculously short, and the hub is light enough that one needs to be careful that it doesn't skate off the desktop, but it functions perfectly, doesn't take up much space, and is attractive. If the cord were longer I would give it 5 stars rather than 4.
Customer Review: Works well; power cable ludicrously short Summary: 4 Stars
Device works well, and with 7 ports provides a lot more utility than the more common 4 port models. Looks nice, very lightweight.
As mentioned by another reviewer, the power cable (used if you need more power draw than from just the computer USB port) is ridiculously short, nearly unusably so. So if you have a handy electrical socket close by your computer, or won't be needing to power it, this is a good hub. If you do need a powered hub, the ludicrously short cable could cause problems for you.
