This is for Belkin F5L001 Laptop Cooling Stand. I upgraded my Compaq presario 4025US laptop with a 7200rpm HD and 2 gig of ram because i don't want to buy a new laptop with vista. Unfortunately, i accidentally broke the wire of the cooling fan while putting my ram (long story). When i rebooted, my laptop got so hot, which is unusual before the accident happened. I downloaded a cpu/motherboard freeware temperature sensor and found that temp. goes from high 40's to high 60's deg. C if multitasking. Went to amazon for some advises because i don't know how to fix the fan. Fortunately, bestbuy has this cooling stand. I removed my Targus "cooler" which did not actualy cooled my laptop. When I started my comp, idle temp went down to 33-37 C and on multitasking, went as high as mid 50's. BIG CHANGE.For the most part it stayed on the mid to high 30's. I only tried Targus and Belkin so I can only comment on these. But looking at the difference, I am a satisfied customer and would recommend it. If it works, good for you. If not, then return it. For those who don't like it's design, it's a laptop cooler (that works), not an accesory to make your laptop look good. I guess my emphasis is on the word "cooling", and it does it's job fine.Customer Review: Good even without running fan

I read the reviews here and have some worries about the fan, but in the two weeks of my using this, it seems to work well and is quiet. I'm using this with my 13.5" MacBook, and note that the unit extends about an inch in front of and behind my laptop, but that actually seems to add to the comfort on my lap. Rubber pads keep the laptop from sliding around. It has a convex, rocker-like bottom which fits nicely on my thighs and gives me a stable typing surface.
One negative is that the cord that connects the unit to my USB port easily falls out when I'm moving the laptop around. I have left it behind at different locations and have recovered it just by miracle and kind people. Another is that if I put the machine to sleep, I need to remember to unplug the cord from the USB port or it'll keep working.
One very positive point is that it's convex under my laptop's bottom. I've found that even with the fan off, my thighs and the laptop are both cooler than my using the laptop directly. When I'm really taxing the processor, usually when I have a lot of busy applications busy, the laptop heats up, and that's when I put the fan on.

Well, I went to unplug it from my laptop today and it broke. The piece fell into itself, and I cannot fix it. The lucky thing is that I purchased this from a local wholesale club and they will take it back (if I find the receipt). I did NOT abuse this, so, I have to say, pass on this and try something else. It would seem the quality is just not there.
I bought this today and used it right away. I have a Dell Inspiron, and it gets HOT, really HOT. Not only was I constantly worried about spontaneously combusting (okay, maybe I am exagerating a little), but I was also worried what all the extra heat would do to the longevity of my computer (when it heats up, it slows down a lot). This really keeps my laptop very cool. I am very impressed with the strength of the fan. This was an impulse purchase at my local "wholesale" club, and I am very happy I bought it. It works exactly as advertised. It is USB powered, so you can probably count on draining your battery a lot faster, but still, it's a small price to pay.

I've recently come to the laptop world after I had a PC crash for the zillionth time! I work from home so need to have what they refer to as a "home PC" so that we can look up websites, stay in touch with the "office", etc. throughout the day. So since we never know when we will need the internet the laptop has to stay on all day.
So after a 10 hour work day plus computer time after work for watching various shows on the internet (my TV also has died and I haven't replaced it yet) and visiting my various websites, the computer can be on for a good 18 hours until bedtime. And as you can imagine, the laptop would be HOT after that long of a day.
I finally ordered this and I LOVE IT! My computer stays cool all day and the fan is quiet so I'm not worrying about competing over fan noise while talking to customers or watching my favorite show.
I don't know how I missed the color selection I'll have to get another one in black to match my laptop :).

It appears that the bad things have all been fixed with this excellent cooler. It no longer has a weird glue smell. The usb cord storage door/stand is ratcheted so it will not close accidently and the usb cord is sturdy enough for daily use. Because it blows air the fan cannot be blocked and I suspect that this overworking of the fan motor has caused the problems that previous reviewers have faced. It has cooled my system to respectable levels even when maxing my gpu playing graphics intensive games. My system fan never has had this much time to itself to do other things like count the dust on itself and yell at the occasional spider to get out because the rotating sentry that once whirred constantly is taking a break. My 17" Asus G2sA1 is large but the pads grab and hold on tight. I love this cooler, and if your system seems a little too hot, get this cooler. The price is remarkable and it fits easily into my notebook backpack. What else... oh, very quiet and usb powered.
