Thanks to CES 2008, a product (iTornado)actually works in transferring files between XP & XP. It is available here on Amazon.com
In fact, the iTornado won Best of Show in last years' (2007) for its innovation.
This product even comes with a free software, PC Eraser. It totally removes any trace of files on your hard drive. How's that for a cool deal.
I don't work for this company, but I am motivated by such a great working product to let any and all know of its success.

This product is expensive, but worth it. It comes with software to transfer files and settings, however, Microsoft has just come out with software (beta) called Windows Easy Transfer Companion, specifically designed to transfer not only files but over 100 of the most popular programs and settings as well, from an XP computer to a Vista computer. As I have a number of programs that are working on their 3rd generation upgrade, this should be a big help. Go to Microsoft's Download Center to get this free software.Customer Review: Does what it says.

This is a very simple product that makes file transfer easy. You load the software on the old non-Vista computer, plug in the cable, and follow the instructions. I didn't need to transfer all the files, so I could choose which ones to transfer, making it a very fast process. The only problem I see is that now that I have finished using it, I don't need it any more. Extremely easy to use. Comes with its own CD. One needs to remember that two monitors are needed to accomplish file transfer, one for the old XP computer, the other for the new Vista computer. Transfer requires that each computer has a USB port available. Programs cannot be transferred using the software supplied. There is a beta version of a program transfer system available from Microsoft but I have not dared to try it yet.Customer Review: Worked Flawlessly

It worked perfectly for me. I went from a HP Windows XP Pro to a Dell Windows Vista PC. I loaded the software onto my HP, connected the cables, and after a few prompts, just left it alone for a few hours. I came back and it was finished. All my pictures, music, and documents were on my new machine. I decided not to transfer over all my settings, because I liked the feel of my new machine.
