Customer Review: Quick & Simple transfer from XP to Vista

I was leery after the negative reviews, but couldn't have experienced any smoother transfer of data. I have transferred from both my laptop and my old desktop to the new computer without a hitch.
I did appreciate the other feedback to install the program CD on the XP computer only. I did this, and then connected the cable, and all went VERY smoothly. I only wish I had purchased this BEFORE I had tried to save a few dollars and transfer the data manually. The hour it took to transfer with the cable was well worth the $28 for the cable, and would have saved me more than 12 hours of attempting program and data transfer with the flash drives. I had an excellent experience and reccommend this.

The cable worked as advertised. However, I did get an error and it quit transfering on the first attempt. On the second try it did transfer all my files but it was messy. I tried to customize it but it transfered stuff I thought I had told it not to. Could have been user error though. I had to go back to my Vista laptop and cleanup after it. I bought it used/openbox for around $20 from amazon; so i'm satisfied with it. I had gone to various retail stores in my area and it was $40 or more. I would not pay that kind of money for it, NOT worth it. Maybe if it transfered programs, but it doesn't, so don't get it for that.Customer Review: Great Product

The transfer went great, could not have been simpler. The only caution is to make sure what files you select.I have several HP computers with a factory partition "D" for the restore function. The menu for thr Belkin Cable does not indicate this "D" partion, it just refers to "other misc. files. I did not uncheck this item and filled the new "D" to capacity, mixing the recovery files of both computers. A factory restore did not return it to the original condition. I sorted it out the best I could and do not have any problems. Again, it is a wonderful product, easy and quick to use if you don't make the error I did.Customer Review: Worked perfectly

I'm glad I bought this before reading the reviews, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it!
I plugged it in and had some initial problems because I didn't plug in the USB cord in the correct order. Once I did that, the two computer recognized each other. I set up the files to transfer and away they went. Well, not that quickly - it took almost twelve hours.
One note: I did not use the software that came with the product. I used the MS transfer software that was already on the computer. The new computer had Vista and the old had Windows XP.

I too hesitated to purchase this given all the negative reviews, but after not having a storage device big enough to move my photos from from my XP laptop to my new Vista desktop I decided to try this product. I put in the CD on my laptop, but did not download the included software. Rather, my computer instantly pulled up Window's Easy Transfer program. Using the WET I was able to move all the files I wished to move (photos, music and Microsoft Word documents) in a matter of a few minutes with absolutely no problems.
