I have been searching for the perfect messenger bag for my 17" MBP, and finally, success!
I have a neoprene case, which is great, but only for storage and/or if I am not carrying other items. As a graduate student, this is never the case!
I purchased this with reluctance as I heard it was a snug fit for a 17" laptop, but it is actually quite roomy for my slender 17" MBP. Additionally, the case has a slim profile, which is great, because I have a tote bag that I generally shove binders, texts, pens, paper and my cellular phone in, so I am able to throw this over my shoulder and use my tote to carry my class materials.
The great thing about this bag is that if I wanted to take just a couple things to a favored study locale, I could likely fit them in this bag with my laptop. There is an accessory pouch, which I suppose could fit a small mouse, or jump drive, but I'll probably stuff pens and maybe a screen wipe in it.
There are several little pockets (business cards, pens, and a smaller etc. pouch, as well as the front area that zippers open for space (as you can see in the photo).
Finally, it is aesthetically pleasing! It is quite cute. I have seen it in other colors, but I figure the black will get less dirty than the white/green, and I don't care for brown (personal preference).

This Belkin 17 inch messenger notebook bag is well made and is capable of accomodating an extra large 17" notebook computer, like mine. I have a monster size 17" notebook computer, an ASUS G2K 17" notebook that measures 16.2" x 12.5" x 1.9", most 17" bags and sleeves will NOT fit these dimensions. I am very pleased that this Belkin bag does the trick, and it is capable of fitting my notebook, even with the removable interior bottom cushion kept in place. Also, there is enough room to shove a second smaller notebook, say a 15" or a tablet PC if one wants to in the other internal sleeve. The padding is fairly decent, although I would not want to drop test this on a hard floor. I would say the padding can protect the laptop fairly well from minor banging and bumps, but this bag will not protect your computer from anything excessively stupid. This bag has a good 3 inch shoulder strap, one draw back is that it can only be adjusted for length slightly, that issue does not bother me. Also, there is a nicely padded 1.5" handle, so this can be carried like a briefcase without gouging your hand. For the price, this is a very good value, with plenty of side pockets, pouches and hidden tuck aways. This is an excellent product and if you want anything that's even slightly better, be prepared to spend a lot more money.Customer Review: Excellent Bag!

This bag is wonderful!!!
Very well padded without being bulky. It has a sleek streamlined appearance, yet feels durable and sturdy - I feel very confident that my laptop will be well protected. Very well made with lots of conscientious details incl: an inconspicuous handle (made of the same fabric as the bag) that can be used instead of the long strap, velor lining for the compartment where the laptop is stored, many extra little slots and pockets for storage inside, 1 large and 1 medium sized zippered compartments on one exterior side, and 1 large velcro'ed compartment on the other exterior side that can be used to stash the non-removable strap. The fabric is a top notch water repellent textile and the overall construction of the bag is great, even better than I anticipated. My only minor issues are: 1. the actual color of the red details is a more toned down (almost burgundy) color than the bright red it appears as in the photo and 2. yes, as the other reviewers have mentioned, the strap although very comfortable, does not adjust much (very, very little) and will fall at the waist or lower depending on your height. All in all HIGHLY recommended!

This is the second Belkin 17" Messenger bag I've purchased. The first one was for my wife. She never got a chance to use it as I confiscated it for a few overseas business trips. The bag is tough, although I only put a 15" laptop in, I also "overstuffed" it with manuals to the point it was difficult to close the zipper. Absolutely no adverse effects from doing this.
The main pocket is made of a very soft material, so your laptop is relatively safe from scratches. Even a smaller laptop is held securely in place. Lots of internal pockets, but best used for non-bulky items. Nice external pocket with small opening for an MP3 earphone cord to pass through. The carry strap is not padded, but it is wide an supports the weight very well comfortably. Fits under the seat of commercial aircraft.
I bought another for my wife. She has a 17" laptop. Like a few others stated it's a tight fit. New, slim 17" laptops will fit inside fine. If you have a very thick one, you may want to pass. My wife was able to fit her laptop and a few souvenirs from Hawaii inside. The durability of the canvas and quality of manufacture make this an outstanding choice.

I have researched, purchased and returned several bags at more than twice the price of this bag. Not only am I limited because of the 17" laptop, but some of the bags that say they fit a 17" are too tight to be convenient, or don't fit at all. I have a DELL Vostro 17" and it fits snugly, but easily into the padded compartment. One of my favorite features is the shallow, slim zipper pocket that runs along the top just above the laptop compartment where I store a digital camera, a flip camera and a small wireless mouse. I can easily grab the mouse and set up quickly. The additional pouch stores all my cords in a compact, but easily accessible space. It's not as pretty as other bags, but it is compact and easy to get the strap over my shoulder. I will say that the plastic strap adjuster on the first bag I purchased broke, but I'm hoping it was just a fluke. I like it so much, if it breaks again, I will have the strap sewn in a permanent position. The service from Circuit City was excellent! Also, I ordered it on Saturday and received it on Tuesday!
