Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PCD Basics Fiber Optic Audio Cable - 6ft (1.8M)Customer Review: Good boom for the buck Summary: 5 Stars
Well, to start, I'll say that I never used a SPDIF cable/Toslink cable before, but am very impressed with the results I now have (one going from my computer to my surround system, the other from my TV to the system). This cable seems to be doing its job perfectly, and as a bonus, no RF interference on the visible-light connection. The cable does feel like it could be beefed up some, but as I'm a first-time user now, maybe that's the way optical cables are (quite thin). As for the price, I really can't complain at all: $0.01, with only a few dollars shipping. It arrived pretty quickly, without any problems.
It took some time figuring out how to setup my TV, computer, and surround system, for use with the cable, but that was to be expected, and is unrelated to the product itself.
Anyway, I'd recommend this product for anyone looking for a cheap TosLink cable.
Customer Review: Generic Toslink Optical Cable Summary: 5 Stars
Our home A/V system has multiple Toslink Optical ports all in a row. So, I spent nearly $30 for a "monster style" optical "cable" with BIG plastic ends. Plug this thing in, and it almost covers the Optical ports on either side of it! With this $30 "fat cable", and its BIG plastic end, I lose at least one precious Optical port!
We needed Optical "cables" with smaller molded ends so I could line-them-up in the A/V system! Now, we got exactly what was in the picture for just over $2 each! NO shipping charge! How can they do that? The "cables" were here 4-days later! They were perfect - plug into the row just fine!
How do they work? Exactly like the $30 "cable"! A 6-foot piece of fiber optic cable is a piece of fiber optic cable! As for the molded ends, they're supposedly all standard. These "clicked-in" like they're supposed to. NO complaints!
Customer Review: For a bit over 2 dollars this is a great value Summary: 5 Stars
I put 4 photos in the pics showing the detail of the connector quality. For a two dollar ish cable it offers 100% compatibility with my pc's toslink output and my toslink optical to rca output converter's input jack. The cost of this fiber (really a lightpipe - fiber optics are usually very precise 62.5/125 micron glass fibers - much smaller than the lightpipe size used in toslink) and 2 connectors is great - it arrived on a saturday by us mail in an envelope marked do not bend with extra postage.
Overall I'm very happy with this cable - I've used it at 192 khz, 24 bit, 2 channel output from my pc and into my marantz PMD-661Marantz PMD661 Portable SD Recorder
Cables should be priced reasonably, and this is very reasonable.
Customer Review: It Matters From Whom You Order This Cable Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this toslink cable from Abacus24-7 and received the exact cable pictured and described on this page. The 6' long cable I received has the heavy 5.0 mm jacket and the two connected end caps as shown. The heavy jacket has a very sturdy feel and nicely protects the inner fiber optic cable.
As pointed out by other reviewers, when purchasing items via third party sellers, the shipping charges apply to each item ordered, so (at the time of this writing), each cable from Abacus24-7 really costs ($1.40 + $2.95 shipping) for a total of $4.35. Still, at $4.35 per cable, this is a great bargain.
The performance of the cable is exactly like one would expect from a quality toslink cable.
I plan to purchase two more to replace some other toslink cables which do not have the heavy jacket like this one.
Customer Review: Clean, Clear, digital. Summary: 5 Stars
If you have ever heard or used digital audio before, you know the quality of sound that comes out of these devices. If you have a device that supports this cable (not only something like a blu-ray player but a surround sound system also) then it is a no brIner to get one of these cables. I recently had the sad loss of my old optical cable I bought 2 years ago, it was a "top of the line belkin or something that I remember was very expensive, but this cable was about 1/32 of the cost and works just as well ifnot better. That being said, if your devices support HDMI audio in, do not hesitate to use that because I have heard the difference, and although subtle, HDMI sound supports surround sound slighty better, but also it all goes through one cable thus saving you clutter and money. Do yourself a favor and get this cable!
