Customer Review: Not what I expected, but can't beat the price.

Like many other reviewers, I was also surprised when I opened the box to find a flimsy looking cable. Expecting the thick wired, normal looking optical cable shown in the pictures and having never seen one with such a thin wire before, I was understandably concerned about how it would perform.
I was pleasantly surprised, however, when the cable worked just fine, and I noticed no discernible difference when compared with my other cables. The connection actually locks more securely then one of my more expensive cables.
After reading through more reviews (which I should have done, admittedly, before I purchased) I found the review by David from Houston, TX which explained the reason for the cable thickness differences as Amazon rotating its featured sellers who, in turn, shipped different products. Mine happened to come from SF Planet who seem to be the ones shipping the thinner cables.
A comment on his review by "skids" was also helpful by mentioning that as long as the thinner cable wasn't being folded or snagged, the thickness shouldn't matter. Those nervous about the cable thickness might rather spend a bit more for the AmazonBasics version which has a nice thick cable and works great (I have several). In my case it wasn't a problem, and despite the difference in appearance from what I expected, the cable does exactly what I bought it for at a much lower price than other optical cables.
I gave the product 5 stars because to get an optical cable that works just as well as any other, despite its appearance, for under $3 is deserving. I'm no expert and can't comment on how this cable might compare in a high end setup, but, for the average home user who wants to save some cash, this is a great deal.
