Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Brother HL-2140 Laser PrinterCustomer Review: Does what it's supposed to do Summary: 5 Stars
This is the second of 3 Brother laser printers I have purchased. I also have an older HL-2040 which is still doing well on my 2nd workstation. I also have a recently purchased HL-3070CW.
The HL-2140 is a no-nonsense workhorse printing in B&W only at very low cost per page. The starter cartridge lasts over six months. I finally replaced it with a Brother cartridge and I expect the replacement (I only use Brother Factory cartridges) will last 2-3 years, which is my experience with the older HL-2040.
I've been very pleased with the total printing costs of Brother machines. I've been very pleased with the reliability and dependability of Brother machines. In the past, I've purchased computer bundles which came with a ink-jet printer and I've either given the printer away or thrown one away.
Customer Review: Best deal for the money and the replacement toner is cheap Summary: 5 Stars
This has to be one of the best purchases on the internet for a simple black and white laser printer. The build quality and packaging was great. Box was dented bad during delivery, but the item was so well packaged there was no sign of damage. The speed it decent, but perfect for the home, student or home office and maybe a light business. The printer warms up fairly fast and is ready to print in about 2 minutes from turn on (I leave mine off unless ready to print). The only weird thing about this printer, and maybe not the printer at all, but when I turn it on the lights in my room dim and flicker while it is printing. So maybe this thing sucks up a lot of juice.
Bottom line: Buy this printer if you are looking for a great deal and good printer for your home. You will not be unhappy with this purchase.
Customer Review: looks great, works great, price is right. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a telecommuter and was spending about $60/year on black ink cartridges for my inkjet printer.
This WHOLE PRINTER cost only a few bucks than that, so I thought it would be a good investment.
And it was.
Printing is crisp and clear, and it worked straight out of the box with Ubuntu Linux--a big selling point for me since Linux doesn't use driver disks. (Either something works out of the box or it doesn't.)
It also looks nice in my living room office niche--it's a trendy dark chocolate color with a beige top. None of this fakey-metal silver stuff.
Best of all: no more seasonal visits to the big box office supply store.
I remember when Brother used to make typewriters. They were low end, but worked great. Same is true of this printer.
Customer Review: Excellent functionality and quality for the price Summary: 5 Stars
When I finally got tired of the price of inkjet ink and the horrible speed of my old printer, I started shopping for small laser unit. This one consistently received great reviews as a simple home/small office printer, and they were right on the nose. It prints very quickly, although there is a very slight delay in spooling to the printer. It is reasonably quiet, although there is some noise. The print quality is excellent, it hasn't jammed even once so far, it was easy to set up, doesn't take up much space, loads easily from the front, and just plain works smoothly. I waited for a few weeks to submit this, but I've put quite a load on it in the past weeks, and it performs as advertised. It has no fancy features, so I hesitated to 5 star it there, but for everything else, I can highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Love my little brother Summary: 5 Stars
I got this printer for my husband for Christmas in 2009. He's a writer and sending submissions printed on an inkjet is a bad idea. It was on sale at the perfect price (around $70) at the right time (Christmas Eve). In over a year, we have had perfect results every time we've used it. It prints beautifully, and is simple to operate. The only missfeed I've ever had was when I wasn't paying attention and put some badly-wrinkled paper in the tray. Even then, it was a simple fix. It's durable too. We didn't have a good place for it so it sat on our coffee table, then under the coffee table, then on the floor in the living room, then in the kitchen... and with 4 kids running around, I know it got kicked a few times, toys thrown at it, and landed with a pretty good thud at least twice. It has never complained.
