Customer Review: Exceeded my Expectations.

I purchased the Brother HL-2140 B & W Laser Printer in September 2010.
So far it has exceeded all of my expectations for a printer but that is probably because those expectations are based on my previously owned HP Printers. Now I can see what a home printer is suppose to do.
I have read of others having problems setting up the printer, but if you follow the instruction book it is very simple. I admit, if you just set up the printer the same way as most others, without reading the instruction book, you are going to have problems. I had read of others having problems, so I made certain to read the instructions first (they were on the top as open box.
The print is clear and crisp and much faster than other printers I have used even in an office.
Thank you Amazon and other reviewers for helping me find this nice printer.

I bought this printer to replace my Brother HL 2040. Like the 2040 before it, this printer promises to be a reliable and efficient workhorse. The 2140 is quieter, starts up faster and now has settings which have earned it the Energy Star label. I print thousands of pages each month and so far, my Brother laser printers have never let me down. Toner can be expensive for any printer and one is wise to do their homework to see if there are any "tricks" to get more performance out of any given machine.
I've given this review 5 stars despite the following: there is no paper-rest for the manual page feeder and Brother seems to be concerned about making their money on toner refills rather than the actual printers. Believe it or not, it is sometimes less expensive to buy a new printer than to buy a new toner cartridge. That's not right.

The Brother HL-2140 was a breeze to set up! Just popped in the CD and let it go. Putting in the toner/spool was easy too, just slides in. Just remember to buy the USB A/B cable!
So far this printer prints like a beast! Printed my 7 page lab report(pdf file) in under 30 seconds. Fast start up too! :] Very happy! Just hope it lasts! I'll update if I have any further problems.
Another plus is that Amazon has great deals on toner cartridges for this printer! Under $20! This should make my printing a lot cheaper. :]
Also, this printer is pretty compact. Not too large ~18"x19"x14" isn't too bad I think.
The only thing that people might not like about this printer is the fan. When printing and starting up the fan gets kinda loud. But I don't think it's a big deal as long as it keeps the printer cool.

I have received the printer. It is loads of fun. I am still using the cartridge that came with the printer, and I'm pretty sure that I have gotten 200 pages out of it by now. That being said, I do not foresee replacing the cartridge anytime soon. The quality is awesome, and even though it is only black and white, a minor tweak in the setting and the gray scale pictures are coming out quite well. Very fast, and somewhat loud when it prints, but it is an awesome jet engine type of sound so cannot really complain about it, just figured it is worth mentioning to the fellow buyers. There are not too many features that I noticed, but the single button operation is awesome. If you print a lot of stuff, than don't waste your time using the conventional ink jets that take forever. For the buck it is awesome and fits well on my desk.Customer Review: As great as the price

Print quality is absolutely beautiful- you could do a black and white photo and put it up for display. It's relatively quiet, warms up in seconds and prints fast. It's apparently easy to get replacement toner and, although I haven't had it for long, seems to be a great quality product that will last. 5 stars for everything- except 3 stars for features because you can't print from the machine, etc, like a lot of the new ones, but it has a toner-save mode, you can pick your dpi's, and other stuff you can configure (easily) before printing.
One last thing: ***Buy a printer USB cable! It doesn't come with one!*** I did so it didn't bother me, but I can see how it can be a pain...
All in all, I'm very happy with it and I hope it lasts a long time, and if not, for this price, I'll buy another one. :)
