Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Brother HL-2140 Laser Printer

Customer Review: Really great printer!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this printer at the start of my freshman year of college and now that my year is almost up, my printer is still living strong. I'm still using the tester cartridge it came with. I did some guess-timation and I think I've printer about 800-900 pages so far. Just today the toner light was blinking yellow but I'm sure I can squeeze out a dozen more pages before the year ends. A lot of kids who live on my floor flock to me to use my printer, which comes to be a great annoyance. I think the life of my toner would have been double if not for them. Before buying a laser printer, I went through 3 HP inkjet printers and they were all about the same price of this Brothers laser printer. I bought mine from staples for 60 dollars. Though the toner is a bit (only a little bit) more expensive, in the long run you'll save more money. When I had my color inkjets, I had to buy a cartridge for every color that was running low, and that racked up about thirty or more dollars every few weeks. Really if you bought this printer on sale like I did, it feels like its worth more than what you paid for.

Customer Review: Best Low-Cost Laser
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far the most inexpensive but capable laser printer I've ever used. I have worked in several businesses that use personal HP lasers, and they are nice, but they cost upwards of $600.

This printer literally does the same exact thing for a fraction of the price. In fact, I've had less problems with this so far than with the HP machines. Plug-n-play, no software installation necessary, and super easy network printer sharing setup via built-in Windows dialogues.

I'm in college now and I highly recommend this to anyone who wants laser quality and convenience and can afford a few extra bucks. It completely blows any cheap inkjet away. My roommate bought a cheap HP all-in-one and the included ink lasted about 3 days...not to mention multiple paper jams and the slowest print speed I've ever seen. This Brother hasn't even shown the slightest sign of being low on ink, and I've printed at least 100 pages so far on the sample cartridge. Now my roommate prints over the school network to my printer because his won't even power on.

Great buy!

Customer Review: Tanner
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this printer a few weeks ago when I started school. I had been looking for an inexpensive laser printer because I like to print a lot of stuff for classes (powerpoints, lecture outlines, etc.) and these are very cost effective on toner.

I ordered this for around $55, got it within a few days as always with Amazon, and excitedly ripped open the box. Installation was a breeze, and the Brother drivers don't bog down my laptop. I had it up and running in 15 minutes, installation and everything. Print quality is outstanding; it's not very noisey and the warmup time is a few seconds. The included divers have a lot of features concerning quality and toner use that you can easily fool around with to adjust for personal use. It's not very big, takes up a quarter of my desk at school... which is lacking in space to begin with so I was pleasantly surprised. It's a great little printer at a really great price. You'd be a fool not to take advantage and grab one. Brother's are impeccable and last forever.

Overall: Awesome!

Customer Review: Brother HL-2140 B&W Laser Printer
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this printer as I don't normally use color ink and was tired of 1) paying for color ink and 2) having it dry up in my ink-jet printer because of going so long in-between color print jobs. I can live with only B&W. If I need color, I can go to our friend's or to the local print shop.

The printer's footprint is small. It's quiet. It's fast. The printing is much more crisp than my former ink-jet. I've seen videos on the Net that show how to replace the toner, without having to buy another cartridge.

My only complaint is that I get confused on the direction to place a piece of paper for copying the 2nd side that already has printing on 1 side. Minor problem I hope to finally figure out one day!

I am VERY pleased with my purchase and would buy the unit again in a flash.

PS. I considered the Samsung Monochrome Laser Printer (ML-1665), however, most locations at the time had no refill cartridges available. I don't know the current situation.

Customer Review: Good Cost-effective printer
Summary: 5 Stars

Basically, the printer is pretty fast at printing. Its good quality. I am on my rotations right now and I, like the fellow below, have to print a ton of articles and papers. The other day I printed 500 pages. How long did that take? 20 minutes.

The best thing, you can highlight without smearing.

Cost wise, its about 2 cents a page. $[...] dollars for a high-yield toner which printer 2600 pages. Also, you can get more out of the toners by shaking them. I usually do that to squeeze out another 200 pages ish.

Also, if you can get a hook up to get the toners cheaper through like a staples business account then its even better. I was able to acquire the brother cartridges (new) for about [...]. Making my cost/page about a penny.

All in all, toss out the inject printer. If you need color to print photos, then get a photo printer for photos. For all the other crap you print out on a day to day basis, the laser printer will do you good and save you money for taco bell.
