I've been an associate and ready to start my own law office and have been using this printer for almost 2 years. This is a simple laser printer that is very reliable and easy to maintain. I write a lot of documents and letters and this is excellent for what I do. I was so happy with the one I have that I ordered another one through Amazon. For less than $48.00 (free shipping and no taxes) I bought one and now am thinking I should have ordered two. This printer takes very little space and I have it hooked up to my wireless system so several computers can print to the printer. The manual feed will only take one page at a time, but the best way to bypass that is to take out the paper in the tray and put in the paper that you want to print on. I like to keep things simple and this laser printer keeps things simple, easy, efficient, and inexpensive. Not even to mention it is Energy Star approved. Thank you Brother for creating a simple and reliable printer and thank you Amazon for some amazing deals!!!!!! (Better than wasting gas driving to Walmart and letting Walmart make more money when I can sit back and let good old reliable Amazon save me money, time, and have it delivered to my door.Customer Review: Excellent printer no matter what you pay for it.

I know some of you might be envious if you have to pay for the price listed on Amazon, but I got it online on a great deal for $39.99 + shipping (total of $52). It was also available at stores for $49.99 at the same time on a special offer, but they were all gone.
As a college student, I really needed a printer to do all the print jobs that were required. I amazingly went through the 300 free prints per semester in about 3 weeks, and I wasn't planning on paying 13 cents a page at the school library, which was really a hassle as well.
So far I've had it for about a month and it has worked perfectly. The only complaint I had was that the first 30 pages had black ink splotches on the right side, but it has gone away for every print since then. The printer feeds the paper well, even when I double side print the second time around.
There were a few jams that required a quick removal and once when a page was incompletely printed, but these are very minor problems that I have had with every printer I've encountered.
Overall, a workhorse and completely worth its money. So far so good, will update on my review if there is any major problem on it soon.

I love this printer!
I have one with me at college, and it fulfills all my needs that I need in a printer.
Cheap black text prints. If you do not want / need color prints, this printer is for you.
It is very fast, efficient, and quiet when printing.
A very small compact size compared to other laser printers. Does not take up a lot of room.
I have a macbook pro, and it is plug and play. So easy to set up and use.
Once my parents printer broke at home, my parents bought the same printer that I have.
My parents don't know anything about computers, let alone printers. But when they bought this printer,
they where surprised at how easy it was to set it up and use. My parents have an iMac.
They are quite impressed with this printer as well.
The toner is a little on the expensive side, compared to my old ink jet cartridges.
But you can print a whole lot more pages with these toner cartridges then an ink jet cartridge.
It is worth the money. You will not need to replace the cartridge every month now.
I replace my toner cartridge about every 14 months.

For years I have used the inkjet printers. I was fooled by their low cost, and trapped by their high cost of replacement cartridges. I don't print at home as often as I used to, and inkjet cartridges dry up when not in use (in the printer). So, instead of buying the next inkjet cartridge at $30/$50 each, I decided to look into an inexpensive, reliable, dependable, cost-effective black-and-white laser printer. And with the Brother HL2140 I found it! I've used laser printers in the past at work. I'm amazed at how far along the printers have improved.
1) very easy to install (follow the quick setup exactly and it works perfectly)
2) cartridge is easy to install and very affordable
3) quiet and prints FAST (my inkjet is a turtle in comparison)
4) print quality is good
5) very well made
I read the Amazon reviews before I purchased it, and that helped make my decision. To the reviewer that included the tip of putting a piece of tape on the cartridge -- thanks.
I would write a whole bunch more, but bottomline, if you're looking for an inexpensive laser printer, buy the Brother.

Brother laser printers currently are the only printers we use at work. At work, we have never had a problem. We currently have one of the HL-1440 in service, which is the first Brother laser printers we purchased over 3 years ago. We began updating and replacing our remaining HP Inkjet printers with more Brother laser printers within the last year or so. We have 2 of this HL-2140 and 4-5 of the HL-2170 models in place.
So I decided a laser printer for home would be a good investment. I purchased this printer 6-7 months ago and I have been very pleased with the performance. The price was very good. I replaced a Lexmark color inkjet that was costing me a small fortune in ink supplies. You can not beat the price or print quality of this printer. It does eveything I need for printing at home. The cost of replacement toner for this printer is not expensive when you consider the cost per copy versus other printer technologies like inkjet printers.
I would highly recommend this printer to anyone for work or home use. HL-2170 is a little faster, but for home use this printer should meet you needs.
