As the title explains, this is my very first piece of Bose sound equipment. (still not a fan of the company, just this product.) Working as a sound technician for the last 3 years I have hear some good, great, and terrible sound systems. This product is unbelievably good! Paired with an iPod that has been EQ'd it will sing! (Some iPod EQ settings just sound bad in general so you need to find one that doesn't suck to reap the most reward.)I couldn't believe the quality that came out of such small speakers! Not to mention it is very portable and does a brilliant job even when it isn't plugged in. Battery life has been great so far as well.
To be fair though, I wouldn't have even dreamed about spending this much money on an iPod dock. Luckily, for me, my friend is a generous guy and gave me one for christmas.

$400 for a speaker this size might seem a bit much, but let me tell you, it is a true delight & worth it. I play it low on my patio so as not to disturb my neighbors... and it is quiet yet completely clear & full bodied. Then inside the house, I've blasted it up real high and it's bold & exceptional. I tried it with Pandora and radio stations... very nice. I'm extremely pleased with the crisp sound of the jazz I like... the brass comes across well... not, of course, like the surround sound of a full set of speakers, but out of a single box, it's impressive. My CD player plugged in creates a super sound!
I purchased the "package" which includes the carry bag and headphones... I DO recommend the carry bag... the headphones are good, but not necessary if you have half-way decent ones already.

I had a 3 year old Altec Lansing travel speaker set which served me very well for going travelling/staying in hotels etc...nothing too pricey but something that served me well. Thought about something more substantial for the home to take outside and use in the loft/garden. Bought the Bose and tried it out with a few tracks on its first outing and the sound is quite incredible. It seems a bit basey at first but once you've tuned your ear in, you'll appreciate the hi-fi roundness of its delivery. 2 tracks that you should try are Phil Collins, In the Air and The Police, Walking on the Moon- both show up any imperfections in the speakers as they are well known productions...the Bose gives a simply stunning performance. Yes its pricey but how often will I buy another speak set for an ipod?Customer Review: Amazed everytime

The sound of my portable using an iPOD Touch 2nd Gen always amazes me everytime I fire it up.
It's just a small portable, so don't expect it to fill a large room. But for personal listening up close, it the best portable I've ever heard.
It is easy to use(don't misplace the remote!) and if you run a display APP such as "KALIDESCOPE" while listening it looks great.
Just load your iPod with 5 star songs put it on "Shuffle" and enjoy.
For bedside, office or hobbyroom it's terrific. But be realistic, it's not going to beat your 7.1 computer stereo. Or even a 5.1 for that matter. You just can't get the seperation.
You can use a Credit Card Reward to take the sting out of the price, I did.

The portable music system is great! It is easy to set up and operate, flexible in that I can move it anywhere with ease, and has an excellent quality of sound. Now, I have the music I want wherever I go! What convinced me that the Bose SoundDock Portable system was the way to go was hearing the quality of sound while on the beach in Maui. In tracing the source of the music, we found a gentleman on the beach--sitting in his armchair with a side table. On the side table was the Bose SoundDock Portable system. (It was so amazing that we had to ask!) Each afternoon, we benefited from his music arsenal--10,000 songs loaded on this system. So, upon return to the mainland, both my sister and I got our own!
