Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose SoundDock Portable Digital Music System (Gloss Black)Customer Review: Hard to drop $400, but very much worth it Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I am not a Bose "slappy". I owned one pair of 1990's vintage 401's, and currently have a pair of their in-ear headphones (both of which I received as a gift). I used to sell high-end audio equipment, and would do everything in my power to move people away from "Blose" and into something that offered better balance. I walked up to this unit with a lot of skepticism, but after auditioning it at home with a variety of music, I am nothing but pleased.
We thought about purchasing this for several weeks, trying to justify spending the money on an iPod dock. We already own a small JBL dock that receives little use. In the end, we were blown away by the sound and the portability factor. It is serving us well in our living room, outside on the patio, and on the table of our campsites this summer. The battery lasts anywhere between 3 and 7 hours, depending on how loud the volume is. We also went out and purchased the carrying case. It was a bit much at $50, but at the same time after dropping $400 on the unit itself, we wanted it to be protected when we take it out and about.
If you have the extra money, it is worth the price, especially if you want really nice sound in a variety of locations. If you don't plan on taking the SoundDock Portable anywhere, the corded version is $100 less, and sounds the same.
My only dislikes about the unit are the size of the power transformer, and the fact that one button on the remote was stuck down upon opening it up. I contacted Bose customer service and they promptly shipped me a new remote, no questions asked.
Customer Review: Bose SoundDock Portable perfect fit Summary: 5 Stars
This is our second Bose SoundDock as we also owned the original. I've also owned about three Bose Wave Radios (now Wave Music System)and noise canceling headphones. So, to say I'm a Bose fan is putting it mildly.
Sure, you pay through the nose, but my experience is that Bose delivers quality and stands by its products. We bought the SD Portable because we're living in a small flat in London. It's the perfect solution. Few wires, self-contained, small, yet it delivers a big quality sound that fills our living room. We are also limited on wall outlets here and with the great battery life from the rechargeable battery, I can take it anywhere around the flat.
Some knock Bose for their prices and refusal to disclose sound specs. Hey, I just listen to my music and find that it enables me to really enjoy that music where other systems might get in the way. If it doesn't deliver the best sound for its size, it's nearly the best.
The one problem I experienced is that with my new iPod Classic 80GB, the playlist up and down buttons on the remote don't work. Bose told me they can't keep up with every iPod model and that software updates to the iPod might fix that, but no guarantees. This is not a fatal flaw, but a bit of an annoyance.
Otherwise, this is a great product and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, especially if you're interested in great sound in an effecient and small box.
Customer Review: Great Sound Small Package Summary: 5 Stars
We were intent on purchasing the Sound Dock Series II, but while in line at Best Buy on Black Friday morning, we saw the portable unit. Wanting to use this in various rooms in the house as well as in the camper, we thought the portable unit would fit us better.
The sound quality is on par with Bose's legendary performance: extraordinary richness of all tones with a great balance between them. It is more than loud enough for any size room in a typical American household. It's lightweight and very easy to set up and use.
The battery seems to last well; we charged it and then used for a day and a half over the long Thanksgiving weekend without needing to charge it again. The AC charger is a little unique and a bit bulky, but not really an issue.
We like the remote and the new feature that allows you to navigate through the playlists. My wife suggested that it would be nice if the remote would display the playlist and track name, but that's probably down the road a bit.
Overall we are very pleased with it; we did buy it at Best Buy at the same price as Amazon, but we had to pay sales tax. We also opted for the 2-year protection plan since we plan on using this a lot.
I would love to compare the Harman-Kardon Go+Play to the Bose Sound Dock, but we couldn't find a store anywhere near us that carries
Customer Review: The extras are top notch too. Summary: 5 Stars
Forget my opinion about the sound quality...everyone knows this thing is wonderful.
Here are the extra features that have me still thoroughly pleased after 1 full year of use;
I replaced my Logitech docker with this because the Logitech portable battery died and you cannot replace it as it is soldered in. The portable battery in the Bose is fully replaceable.
Also, the battery has amazing life. I have run it well over 8 hours and it was still going strong. Manufacturer claims 10 hours, and it looks to me like that is accurate, but mine has yet to run out.
It sits steady on the table. It cost $400 and I have a 2 year old granddaughter. You get the picture.
The back carry handle is a simple inset for your fingers. I carry this out to the pool a lot and I do not want to drop it. This simple feature is very well balanced and provides secure handling.
The remote control works without even having to point it directly at the unit. Very convenient. BTW, I bought those little velcro strips and mounted the remote to the top of the unit for ease of use.
Lastly, I was very hesitant to spend the money on this little gem, but my wife said go for it. She thought we would be glad we did. She was right.

Customer Review: True room-filling sound Summary: 5 Stars
I have been looking for a good dock for my new generation iPod. I happened to see this at a Circuit City store. Since they're going out of business I got a good price, which I still thought was way too much. But I figured to give it a try since I will never see it cheaper. If I couldn't justify the cost after listening to it, it would of been up on eBay, but this is staying with me.
I guess there is something to Bose technology. I mean it projects so well. You can sit next to it and it sounds good. Then I can go from one side of the room to the other (of a large room) and there is virtually no difference in sound. It actually sounds better when you are not right next to it. It literally fills the room. The bass is very full, not earthshaking, but what do you expect. I bring it into the bathroom when I take a shower and at even at a low volume, the bass is ridiculous. So I guess depending on the size of the room you use it, it can sound different. But, it always sounds good. I got a TV sound system and computer speakers by Sony and JBL respectively. The Bose has the most clarity and most authentic sound and the most pleasurable to listen to. Add the fact that it portable and works with Apple's newest iPods, I would say this is your best choice.
