Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia Speaker SystemCustomer Review: Excellent sound...as TV speakers!! Summary: 5 Stars
I got these speakers for free from one of the vendors I deal with for an Xmas gift. So, of course, the price was right. But since I already had top-notch speakers on both of my home computers, I wasn't sure what to do with them. Alas...to the family room and my crappy, 27" Panasonic tube television, which is stereo but whose speakers blow. I figured since these speakers are amplified, I could hook them up to my TV's audio out jacks. And whaddya know. It worked great. So now I have nice Bose sound coming out of my previously crappy sounding TV. What a difference it makes when watching music DVDs or musical performances on broadcast TV. So, while I can't speak as to how these speakers will sound with a computer, I can tell you that they work great with a stereo TV with audio out jacks. I probably never would've bought these just to use with the TV. But I'm sure glad I got them for free, because they're totally cool. Nice looking, too.
Customer Review: Quality Computer Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my Bose Companion 2 speakers for over two years. They produce much better sound than many larger speakers and people have looked for the bass kicker because they produce such a rich bass sound. These speakers have also been knocked off my desk onto a tile floor many times, had stuff spilled on them and in general have not been treated all that well, but they keep going and the sound has not changed.
I now play all of my music through my computer because the computer sounds better than the stereo. I also have used these with my MP3 player and have hooked them up with my MP3 at parties and no one suspected that I could be using computer speakers. My friends have noticed also and at least two of them have purchased the same speakers after hearing them in my home. For less than $100 I am impressed with both the sound quality and the quality construction.
Customer Review: Astonishing Sound For Size Summary: 5 Stars
I am using these speakers as "satellite" speakers for an HDTV. If you weren't looking, you would think the sound was coming from full size floor speakers. And, they make very good substitutes for the puny speakers that are supplied with HDTV's - especially since they are self-powered and can be driven by the low level line output of the TV.
One thing, Bose should document that they automatically go into "sleep mode" when not in use - thus obviating the need for an on/off switch. From the comments I've seen, there is widespread disappointment at the lack of an on/off switch when, in fact, one is not necessary. The fact that they automatically turn on in the presence of a sound signal is another reason why they make good TV satellite speakers for those not having the space or inclination to go for a full scale "home theatre" sound system.
Customer Review: Great Speakers! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had these for a few years now. I have used them as permanent desktop speakers and as portable speakers for my laptop. In both cases, these speakers have performed very well. They provide good range, are plenty loud, and the construction and durability are very high quality. I have had friends ask where the sub-woofer is while watching a movie or listening to music.
They aren't easily portable in a bag because of their weight, but I stick them in a small Rubbermaid clear tote along with the power cord and other electronic goodies for my laptop. They make superb Ipod speakers (better than any of the dedicated systems I've heard) via the 1/8" audio cord; you'll just have a few wires to deal with. I've looked for a long time since my purchase for speakers that beat these...and nothing under $200 bucks sounds better.
Customer Review: Saved me from buying an office stereo system!! Summary: 5 Stars
Alright, I'm moving and needed to run down the list of essentials. I love my iTunes and iPod, but my PowerBook built-in speakers are horrible. I was planning on picking up a shelf system and connecting an AirPort Express to it so I could stream audio from the laptop to the stereo auxiliary. Then, on a whim, I purchased these speakers after listening to an in-store display. Two speakers, no sub woofer, but sounds (and feels) like there is a sub woofer somewhere. I'm not exaggerating, if you crank these speakers up you will feel the bass in your chest!! Less than a $100, Bose name, minimal footprint, loud (with no distortion), and no purchase of a shelf stereo required... I'm sold. Plug these in and you'll understand their value at $100. I would have paid $200. I'm running my EQ on "flat"!! Great job, Bose research lab!
