I bought these speakers because I didn't want to turn on my surround sound speakers every time I was sitting at my computer doing work. My computer is also my media center that is connected to my TV. So I needed a pair of regular speakers that sounded good without the sub-woofer. These were the perfect solution for my desktop. I use these when I listen to classical music while I'm at my desk doing work or when I'm just watching some videos on you-tube or something. Also, they are great when I'm gaming late at night and I don't want to disturb anyone with the rumble of the sub-woofer. As many users have mentioned, these are GREAT when you are sitting in front of them and are quit loud! They are crisp and clear. As another user has mentioned, you cannot compare these to a surround sound pair of speakers or stereo speakers w/ a sub. They are desktop speakers and in that respect, they are fantastic! Are they pricey? Well, it's all in the eye of the user I say. I have come to expect a lot from Bose and they deliver every time, thus quality and performance deserves the premium. After all, would you pay an "average" price for a new BMW or a Lexus? Of course not. Bose products are no different. So if you're truly comparing apples to apples, these are truly exceptional. I have heard many reviews of Bose products. It is either 'all in' or 'all out'. Well I must say, I've gone 'all in" and I am very happy I did. These speakers do not, as some users say, "sound canned" - this user obviously does not know how to use the equalizer settings in his selected media player. I am currently using these speakers connected to a late 2007 Macbook Pro, and the sound is amazing. In Itunes if you go to preferences, turn on "sound enhancer" to the middle mark, and setting the equalizer to what ever setting is most appropriate to the music you are listening to, these speakers will blow you away.
In many regards, I would compare these to being the Steinway & Sons of desktop 2.0 speakers - when you think they couldn't go any louder, they can always keep going, and without hardly any distortion.
If you are looking for a space-saving and elegant design, great sound, great looks, and have the money to spend on these, then don't think twice. As I have said before, these speakers perfectly complement the Macbook Pro line of computers by Apple, but would equally go great with and iMac, Power Mac, or Macbook.

I bought these based mostly on my friend having these hooked to his PC, but I did some comparison shopping and listening (at a Target kiosk) before buying. Yes, they are more expensive, and yes you are paying for Bose, but regardless of what some people say these Speakers are good for what they are made for. I wanted a nice balanced sound which had good bass, middles and highs but not over the top. These were the ticket for me. I have a Haier Rhapsody Ibiza and they finally came out with an audio dock that hooks up to external speakers, the installation was a breeze and within seconds my home was filled with rich, balanced music, clear and distinctive with no distortion. These speakers are not for blasting, even at a high volume you still get balance without distortion, which is what I wanted. I am not a Bose cheerleader as this is my first Bose product, just because I like them and think they are worth the money after extensive research and listening doesn't make me a shill, it makes me a satisfied customer, lest I get attacked by someone on here who seems to always prove he's right. Anyway, for what I wanted and needed these were perfect, I love the sound and I am satisfied.Customer Review: Great sounding speakers, take it from bass player.

I don't understand how anyone can complain about the Bose Companion 2 series II multimedia speaker system. These desktop speakers are designed for computer and mp3 player use. For their size and price you will not find a better system. The sound is fantastic! Great lows, highs, mids... a well rounded and full sound for any style of music or movie. (I listen to everything from Jazz, Classical, Punk, Pop, Funk, Metal, and Polka just to name a few.) As a professional acoustic and electric bass player I am very picky when it comes to bass response in sound systems. The Companion 2's more than satisfy my need for bass response and definition. The stereo separation is very spacious when seated between the speakers. They are simple to use, with just one volume knob. They are well constructed and very solid feeling. They aren't bulky and have plenty of volume for their small size.
I live and work as a musician on cruise ships and these work perfect in my cabin. Sometimes they are even too loud for my neighbors! They fit nicely in to my suitcase for travel.
For under $100 you can't go wrong with the Bose Companion 2 series II multimedia speaker system.

People buy these thinking they are going to compair with a larger system.
What you must understand is that these little speakers with 3" full-range drivers simply sound wonderful for the size they are.
I was amazed at the sound they put out for the size.
Very full sounding and crisp. They will fill a room with sound, but keep
in mind that these are not meant to blow you away at high volumes.
I have found they are room dependent... Move them around to get the best sound. On your desk, you WILL be suprised at the sound quality that comes from these.
My husband could not believe that these little speakers were all that was playing... He thought for sure these was some type of small subwoofer somewhere. Granted, they do not shake the walls, but deliver a very full sound that is very satisfying. For people who dont like there music loud... these are for you as they sound so sweet turned down, unlike many other 2.0 sets that require a little volume before you get any bass.
We use them in the den and on the porch with our Creative Zen Vision:M portable MP3/Media player.
I highly recommend them!
