Customer Review: Nice Unit

This is the third shredder I have purchased. I still have the second one but that's elsewhere right now and we needed a new one. I am a normal security-conscious individual so my shredding requirements aren't large.
The unit is heavier than I would have thought. Seems Aurora didn't cheat on quality when they made this unit. The shredding unit is very solid. When I tested it for the first time I was very impressed in the surprising lack of effort it took to shred multiple pages. The noise level and speed were about the same for a single sheet as for three or four. I put eight sheets in for this review, although as a conservative engineer, I recommend using no more than half the rated capacity. If you have a high volume for shredding documents, get an office-quality shredder. For me, the shredder did just fine. With eight pages, it slowed down and labored a little, but then just shredded the stack of papers without complaint.
This unit is better than the diamond-cut unit I also own. I purchased the diamond-cut unit at Stapes three years ago. The display in the store claimed that the diamond cut was the more secure type of shredding. Now that I've used that one I doubt it's as secure as the 1/8" cross cut. I believe it would be easier to reconstruct a document from the diamond shred than from 1/8" cross cut type. It's probably on par with the 1/4" cross cut that this unit is.
Why did I buy a 1/4" cross cut rather than a 1/8" cross cut? Cost certainly, but more importantly, I believe the types that would try to reconstruct a document from me wouldn't be able to do it -- short attention span. There are easier targets than me. If I were worried about professionals, I would:
1) Burn my sensitive documents and mix the ashes, or
2) Mince them, mix them with water and puree them.

Insert as many as eight pages into the 8.7-inch entry slot and watch through the viewing window as the paper is quickly sliced across and down into 1/5 inch scraps. Even if your documents are folded in half or riddled with staples, the stainless steel blades will quickly shred your documents so that you can dispose of them safely.
Perfect Size for Home or Small Office
The shredder's black color and moderate size (12 x 7 x 16 inches) make it a tasteful and practical addition to a small home or office space. A 59-inch power cord allows you to store it far from power outlets. When the time comes to empty the attached wastebasket, a full-bag indicator light will alert you. But with a 125-sheet-capacity wastebasket, you won't need to empty it often.
For maximum convenience, you can simply leave the shredder in auto start mode. Each time paper is inserted, a sensor will activate the blades. If more than eight pages are inserted at a time, the manual reverse mode can come in handy to clear a temporary paper jam. In case of heavy use, the shredder also features thermal overload protection to keep the unit from overheating.
