I got this to replace a SkyFi3 XM unit. WOW what an improvement! They must have changed the 12VDC plug because I had NO problem putting it in the socket in my '08 F-350. There is a small ring near the tip of the power plug that I was worried about until I discovered it was pliable. Not soft like an ear bud. More of a hard rubber. Same with the pieces of the same material on the barrel of the plug. Snug fit and I did not have an trouble turning it to get the correct angle in relation to the dash.
The antenna connector was the same as the one for my SkyFi3 so installation took all of 3 minutes. Phoned up XM and within 15 minutes I was listening to XM Radio via my iPod with the SkyDock. I used the AUX in on my radio so I can not comment on the FM transmitter. You do have to manually turn it off if you do not want to use it as it is on by default.
The app interface is very nice. With the iPod in widescreen orientation I can see the full artist and song names. When you "swipe" side-to-side to get another channel it has a small window that tells you the channel and the song currently on that channel. (Something the old SkyFi3 couldn't do) Tap the window and it tunes. That is another plus, the tuning is super fast compared to other satellite radios.

This dock is very well built. It has a solid arm that you can bend to suit your vehicle. However, the arm is not too long and its range of motion is a little limited. This has not been an issue but just something to know.
I've used my iPhone and an iPod Touch without any problem. For my iPhone, I use the type of case that is split so the bottom slides off for easy insertion in docks like this.
Using the iPhone as a satellite radio is good but has it's drawbacks. For example, if a phone call comes in, the XM app closes and you need to restart it after your phone call, even if you decline the call. So you have to wait for it to start back up.
The dock is great though. I also use it as a generic dock for to hold the phone and charge it. And it's great to use it with the navigation app that I have.
And you can take the dock out of one car and put it in another. Because I do this occasionally, I didn't run the antenna wire outside of the car. I leave it on the dash board as close to the windshield as possible. Works pretty well but probably not as well as if it were mounted to the car rood as recommended.
Overall, it's great if this is the set up that you are looking for.

I usually don't write reviews. but this product deserve the special effort...
for a few years now, I was thinking of getting a satellite radio for my car, but I didn't want to deal with the aftermarket stuff, and also my car stereo has an aux button but with no port..(stupid design by ford/mercury)so no easy connection.
So finally Skydock came and to tell the truth I was a bit skeptic as to the quality of the FM modulator: from previous experience, I knew that FM modulators were awful. and I live in a highly congested airwave area.
So I was amazed! after a very easy set up of skydock, the sound is crystal clear thru the FM radio- awesome!
and by the way, I really didn't feel like putting the magnetic antenna outside on the roof, so I jut put it on the corner of the dashboard, and he reception is always %100 even which thunderstorms and cloudy skies! the antenna is very small and you don't even see it there.
the interface is wonderful and very easy o use. it's great having all those commercial free channels!
I highly recommend this product to anyone who has an iphone or ipod and wants to have satellite radio in their cars.

I have owned a number of XM radios, but this unit used in conjunction with my iPod Touch is awesome. Finally an XM radio with the ease of use of an iPod. No more struggling to figure out confusing buttons, menus, and features. Within seconds of activating the XM radio, I was able to find and save my favorites to one screen. No more scrolling through endless channels that I never use just to find the ones that I do.
Keeps my iPod charged and ready to rock when I want it. In my vehicle, I can switch stations with ease. Pluggin the iPod on in seconds, the unit finds the sat signal and XM starts playing.
The lighter socket is pretty firm, but that has a benefit in that the iPod does not slide down and offers a pretty firm hold that makes this easy to use.
The designer has thought out all the issues and I don't see how they could improve other than to offer an option to increase the icon size for the stations. It is not a problem, but larger would icons would make it even better. Adding a swipe dimmer would also be great, but make no mistake. This kicks the butt of any of the 4 different Delphi units that I have owned.

This product simply allows one of the most intricate and exciting products to finally have the kind of entertainment it deserves. This endless amount of media transmitting through an existing signal is truly magnificent. The sleek functionality of the Iphone operations and the well thought out format are mind blowing and addictive to the user as the format for selecting/discovering channels is flawless. It would be nice to be able to pause and record like the stiletto but the functionality of the IPHONE is ten times better. I will tag songs and buy them.
The other out of control feature is tagging Artist. Tagging artists alerts you when they are playing on any station. A bubble pops up on the screen and all you have to do is hit accept and you are on that station. My stocks are on display full time on a 15 min delay but that is okay. Also updates on my Yanks and Rangers with scores and game times up to the minute with consistent updates.
The scary part is the only thing that can improve at this point is the APPS. Sirius Xm content is the best out there and there is no denying that.
