Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of AudioVox XVSAP1V1 XM Skydock for iPhone/iTouchCustomer Review: IT WORKS!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had the XM SkyDock for over a week now and feel I can give an honest opinion. This iPod Touch / iPhone docking system allows you to listen and or watch your iTunes library and all that XM Radio offers. There are two ways to get the tunes to your vehicle's sound system. The new Sirius XM PowerConnect which transmits the music wirelessly to your FM enabled radio and sound system. There is a wried auxiliary in cable included and this method eliminates the need for setting up unused FM channels in your area and the sound quality is a little better.
You will get full functionality of the iPhone or iPod and the SkyDock charges either. There are three spacers included that are for the iPhone and Ipod with and without a case. The XM channel line up speaks for itself and I personally do not understand anyone that spends time in a vehicle that does not have Sirius or XM. Back to the SkyDock; like all Apple products it just works. It took me less than two minutes to set up the SkyDock in my truck. The XM antenna is magnetic and will stay on the roof of your vehicle with no problems or you can Velcro the antenna to you dashboard for the ultimate portability between vehicles.
You can tag songs for purchase. You can set up alerts for a specific song or artist. You can follow your stocks and sports team scores. You can set up alerts for your favorite XM shows or when a sports team is starting a game. Game schedules are also scrolled in the portrait mode and scrolling was not necessary in the landscape mode.
Customer Review: SkyDock is fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the SkyDock at BB last week and I love it! Sirius XM really did a good job with this. It was a breeze to setup. Just plug it in the cig adapter (it fits VERY snuggly) and plug in the antenna. Download the SkyDock app from the app store and call/go online to activate your subscription. Even before you activate, you can still use the SkyDock to listen to your mp3s or stream music from any other music app. When I first saw pictures of the SkyDock I thought the stalk looked a little odd and might be flimsy. But it's very sturdy and works great to let you position your device exactly where you want it. The new "PowerConnect" FM transmitter sounds very good and makes installation much simpler than other sat rad devices. I no longer have to have the extra SureConnect wires in the car that I was using with my XMp3. Of course if you have an aux in in your car that's going to give you better sound than using the FM transmitter. As for the app, it is extremely well designed and very intuitive. It's very easy to flip through categories, channels and select favorites while driving. There isn't a "scan" feature which would be nice, but it doesn't take long to figure out where to swipe and touch without looking (keep your eyes on the road!) to do your own channel scanning. Sirius obviously spent a lot of time designing and testing this. It's nearly perfect for a v1.0 app. This is an amazing device! Thank you Sirius XM!!!
Customer Review: XM SkyDock is a winner Summary: 5 Stars
I just got my SkyDock today from the BestBuy in my neighborhood. First, I was looking for a way to eliminate some radio subscriptions. Second, I was looking for portability. The SkyDock is the answer.
Here's an additional extra they don't promote:
Using the wireless FM transmitter built in, I was able to transmit not only my XM radio, but also the songs on my iPod as well, including my podcasts. I switched to the internet version of the XM app, and it streamed over FM as well. Same with Pandora, Slacker, etc. I hope this doesn't change with any firmware or software upgrades. It's a nice feature. Of course, this only works with the iPhone, since you get unlimited data with that. iPod users, sorry.
That's a big plus for me, as I can now run an independent AUX cable from the back of my radio to the unit, and get full sound for all my media.
Another revelation: As long as your iPhone or iPod Touch is running firmware 3.0, you should be good to use this. The online listings say only iPhone 3G and 3GS are compatible, but the in-box instructions say otherwise.
My only gripe is that the neck is a little short. Some cars have an easily accessible DC power outlet where this wouldn't be a problem, but thanks to Honda, I have to twist the neck a little to get it just right.
So far, so good.
Customer Review: A stellar XM radio Summary: 5 Stars
The XM SkyDock is absolutely the best portable satellite radio for your money. I purchased one for my wife this past December as a Christmas gift. She loves it. I love it. Sometimes I wish I could take it from her. ;)
It is a solidly built product that shows signs of long-lasting materials. It was a breeze to setup (took about 15 minutes including activation time). Our iPhones fit perfectly thanks to the spacers provided. The XM app for iPhone works well, and with the exception of a few minor flaws, is darn near perfect. We love the tagging feature, the excellent, high quality FM transmitter and the ability to play XM as well as iPod or stream music from an Internet based service such as Pandora. It's also nice to be able to do away with the cigarette adapted phone charger, which always took up the second power port in my wife's vehicle.
The only things I would change:
(a) The channel selection process is cumbersome. It really needs a redesign.
(b) The favorites are just too small. I have to take my eyes off the road for too long to change stations.
(c) I would love the ability to use the SkyDock itself as an in-car speakerphone system. It would need a small speaker (to avoid transmitting phone conversations) and a microphone. This is something XM should think about for their next iteration of the SkyDock.
Customer Review: Best Satellite Radio Device ever Summary: 5 Stars
So simple to install even a caveman could do it! It took me a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes, to install including the 2 hours drivetime from where I got the skydock. in 15 minutes I had it installed, activated and my sports teams in the ticker. Sound quality with the powerconnect system is just amazing. I compared it to my old sirius receiver by doing a comparison test. put the sirius on the nascar channel and the skydock on the nascar channel, put 1 on 1 of my FM modulator sites, and 1 on another one. I put the sirius one up first. it sounded ok, but nothing special. Then I switched to the skydock. Can we say a difference! crystal clear sound as if I was watching the sirius music channels on my dish network satellite system. the skydock makes my old Sirius receiver sound like AM talk radio! Only complaint and this isn't siriusXM's fault but the door on top of the 1999 Chevy Silverado's 12 volt plugins really makes it difficult to get the skydock in place and to pull it out. and trust me it is TIGHTLY plugged in, no falling out of this sucker. you may have some bouncing on rough roads but nothing that will cause your iphone or ipod touch to fall out of the cradle. It's in there nice and snug. now only thing I have to say is. when's the next one coming out with a mini DVR function like the starmate replay and other Sirius/XM receivers?
