If your drive does not work on your USB or works intermittently, it's because your USB port on your computer is NOT supplying enough POWER to the drive. If you use a desktop PC, the easy fix is to upgrade with a USB-PCI Card. If you have a notebook, you may need a USB PCMCIA Card (OR USB ExpressCard)
If you use a netbook, you are pretty much out of luck.
However, most new netbook designers are aware of the situation. I tried this DRIVE on 2 of my desktop (which only work intermittently, can't do anything) and a laptop (same issue) but I tried it on 3 different netbook, all of them work. So it's your USB port is NOT supplying enough power to this external drive.
Source: I'm an electrical engineer. Not sure why the tech support at ASUS doesn't tell everyone this! They should just say this on the box to avoid confusing and frustration. Took me 3 minutes to realize the issue but no way for average customer to understand this.
