Customer Review: Amazing Archos Device - 605 WiFi
Summary: 4 Stars

This device known as the 5th Generation 605 WiFi is amazing.
Before I begin on the Positive note, lets talk about what I didn't like.
Wifi access is limited to an open shared source ex.(Starbucks or Hotels). I didn't have luck at all connecting to a wifi device with enhanced security enabled. Also the internet interface (Opera) lacks the activeX ability I was hoping for. Lastly the Battery takes too long to Charge, coming in at a wopping 8 hrs via usb or 4 hrs from a wall outlet. Once you tackle these hurdles your Golden! This little puppy is amazing! Internet connectivity is relatively fast, the screen resolution is beautiful and very sharp. The layout of the buttons and the overall feel is just right. They got the sound right too it is smooth and crisp. A new feature is the Content Portal which still seems to be in development but has great potential, Love the concept. Widgets are plentiful for that personal touch and the menu and settings are very detailed. Adjustments range from alarm clock to parental control, appearance and tv control. I hope this description doesn't sound all business, because this device is a lot of fun. Speaking of fun did I mention the cool games that are available? There are 4 game packs you can download from archos' web site and that's not all! Setup an account with CinemaNow and view movies right on your device or PC cheaper than renting at Block Buster. I'm happy with this amazing device, I'm sure you will be too.

Customer Review: Works great in Iraq
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought 605 80G about 7 months ago. My review will be simple. Do not buy if you want an MP3 player. It is not made to carry around and listen to music. I also got the DVR station and I use it to listen to music in my house with it hooked up to my TV and surround sound and it is great. The plug-ins can get exspensive but not out of control. The battery life is not as advertised but i can live with it. Lasts about 4 hours watching video, which is what i use it most for. The off brand battery extenders will push the battery to 6 or 7 hours. Fantastic for airplane rides! Volume is not great in noisy situations, but some cheap noise cancelling headphones fixed that for me. Basiclly what I use it for is to carry around a ton of movies and TV shows to watch on the go. Also I am currentlly in Iraq so I watch alot of movies on my bunk. It has stood up to 5 months in Iraq and 1 month of desert training in Califonia. I also bought the helmet cam great little device just was not durable and I trashed on my tank the first time I used it. The DVR station rocks I use it to watch movies and what not on my TV and it works great, even browsed the internet a little on my TV. The Wi-fi is pretty slow though. I love mine though, not as portable as an Itouch, but at least i do not have to deal with Itunes! Great replacment for a Portable DVD player and great for travelers. I love mine. Stores a ton of pictures also.

Customer Review: Great for the patient, Frustrating for others
Summary: 4 Stars

I got my Archos 605 in the mail yesterday and am in general happy with it. However, a few things that you need to know if you buy this product:
1) Make the leap to firefox. Technical support finally directed me to this; apparently the Archos website and store just don't work well with IE.
2) Prepare to spend a good amount of time setting this up. It's not an iPod, with the happy iTunes plug and play features. This is a powerful system that is not trivial to get what you want to do. If you're the type who likes puzzles and configuring software, this is the product for you. If you didn't like programming your tivo, I would suggest another product.
3) What people are saying about the plugins are right -- you totally have to buy multiple plugins to do what you want.
4) If you are an audible user...audible files aren't going to play on this thing. AAC files will, so your audiobooks you bought on iTunes will work.
5) Take the plunge and invest in a battery dock of some sort from Archos. You will definitely need it because the battery life is just not that great.

On the other hand, the web browser is really nice, and the interface is pretty intuitive to use. I like how I can pretty much put anything I want on it (granted, plugins may be required) and that things aren't locked down like Apple.

Hope that helps!

Customer Review: Great product!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using this for almost a month now and am very pleased.
Overall the unit is easy to navigate and the screen is very clear and bright. The touch screen is ok but not as responsive as say an IPHONE. The hard buttons are nice to help navigate as a backup to the touch screen. Menu's can get a little odd but once you know your way around it is easy enough. It holds an amazing amount of stuff and easily all the media I could use on any given trip.
I have connected it to my DISH network receiver and had quickly and simply downloaded several shows and movies. I also have the browser add-in, which will work in a pinch but is not the best mobile browser I have ever seen. And finally, I have the GPS attachment, which is great. The instructions are clear and decently loud with the included speaker, or you can tie it into your head unit's input jack if you have one. There is some logistics getting the thing mounted to the GPS cradle (it in NOT a quick snap in) but the display is pretty glare resistant and menus are easy once you know your way around.
Overall, I am very pleased and will use it for traveling as both GPS and for taking my movies, shows and music with me.
RGUARD.

Customer Review: Great potential... a little 'buggie'
Summary: 4 Stars

This has everything we wanted. We can get rid of all those ugly CD cases cluttering up the living room, show our summer pictures on TV; record TV shows we want to watch and even surf the net without having to go downstairs to get the laptop. Sounds great... if it would all work...
It's a new product so expect to call the help line.. Though most things download from Windows media player without a hitch, the playlists don't come through nor do the album covers. I hope they are working on that. I have called the help line 4 times and recieved 4 different solutions; none have works so far. And for a while I was not able to download the Opera web browser. I understand the Channel guide, needed to record TV shows is still having problems but as of this writing I haven't tried to use it yet. That is the down side. Upside - a great little device with a good screen and terrific potential. If you want a total smooth installation wait a few months. But if your willing to put up with a little fussing this is a wonderful device! Either way I would certainly buy it again.
