after reading many many blogs and reviews i decided to go with the archos 605 and i havenet regreted so far. ive had it for about a 3 and 1/2 months now and everything looks great. Video is incredible with its resolution of 800x480 which is one big reason i chose the archos 605. other than watching videos music sounds great and viewing photos is also great. there are so many features that u can get (which i plan to get) that make this the best thing out there so far. Touch screen works great, wi-fi rocks and i cant say enough about the kickstand they have on the back. Its so simple but it really is great to have so i dont have to hold up the player all the time. After testing the Archos 605 wifi for a few weeks, I can say that it was a great purchase. The large screen is excellent for viewing photos, videos, and perfect for surfing the web. With the internet plugin I was able to connect to my home wifi network and also surf the web in the airport.
The speaker on the Archos is one of my favorite features. The touchscreen works great, but accuracy is key. Use the included stylus to press the small keys.
Battery life is average, but charging is fast with the optional mini dock/ DVR dock/ or external battery dock.
Overall, this does everything the ipod touch can do and exceeds those standards set by apple.

Great photo and video resolution, really nice audio quality, good Internet connectivity, and easy to navigate. Easily syncs to Windows Media Player to download files. Somewhat awkward to use touch screen keyboard on Internet access, but not much of a problem. You will really need the Mini Dock or DVR Gen 5 Dock to fully use the whole capability of the unit and charge it quickly so plan to pay for accessories. Internet browsing also requires extra money to download Opera OS, but it works well. Great unit especially for those who spend a lot of time on airplanes.Customer Review: Perfect for what it does

I was looking for something that could play movies (ideally for small daughter when she flies, as well as when I have to fly for business). I did not want to lug a dvd player with battery, dvds, etc so I looked at Ipod Touch and the Archos. The Archos ( i purchased the 605 30 gb) has a larger screen, and it is wonderful and easy to watch movies on.
I am not thrilled at having to pay for a plug in to be able to see some dvds and as well as separate plug ins for music playing and getting on line. For movie watching, however, it is ideal.

I am really enjoying this product. It is easy to use. It will bookmark
movies, audio books etc. How great is that? The Wifi with the Opera plugin is a great asset. Opera also has many plugin for free. I am glad that I purchased this item and have recently bought one for my husband.
The ipod touch cost more for less disk space and it doesn't bookmark. Archos provides a cable to attach to your computer and becomes a disk drive so you can copy files to the Archos. ipod touch requires special software. Archos is a much better deal.
