I should preface this by saying that this is in fact, my first portable video player. The Archos 605 is my upgrade form an old iriver H10, a perfectly great mp3 player, but i wanted video. After many moths of search, I knew it had to be Archos, and I chose correctly. First of all, the very obvious screen is absolutely amazing. Though I have never had a PVP before, I have used many different models ranging from the iPod video (pretty much every video gen available), Creative visions, and so on, and the screen is unbeatable. A step up from the slightly foggy 604 the 605 offers a very crisp screen that boasts the highest res. available on the market today. Even though the screen is a whopping 4.3 in. (wide screen) the player is still reasonably sized. It fits nicely into my pocket, and the case is protective enough for me to not have to worry. The video quality is obviously great, but also so is the internet. I purchased the internet plug-in, which by the way gives you access to widgets you can't get other wise, and it works very well. I have wireless in my house and school so I use it quite often and the speed is reasonable for a portable player, (Just as good as the iPhone, which I have used as well). Navigating with the touch screen is easy and fun, though the manual might be good to skim through. So far I have no complaints at all besides the length of the USB charge, but I am planning to purchase the battery dock so problem solved. Other than that I have found it very hard to put this amazing player down. It is a great buy and a very decent price. This is where it's at!Customer Review: I loved this unit.

I loved this model. Big hard drive good screen resolution and size. I only had to convert a few video's in order for it to play. And used to be low in price. By far the features I give the highest priority when shopping for a media player. Also, I ordered 2 when I bought them. My girlfriend accidentally left hers in the snow for 2 days and I accidentally ran over it with my car. The screen was trashed. However, it still powered on after I ran over it with a car. And the hard drive light was blinking normally. That to me says, tough :).
I loved the price for the features on this model. I wish archos had stuck wit a cheap alternative to the ipod with a decent size screen,good video resolution and a decent size hard drive. I didn't mind not having android or apples version of apps.
1. I have a smartphone with me anyway.
2. I don't want to pay for all the extra costs that come with these operating systems.
I had a little problem with my archos when trying to service my warranty (on a different matter than the misplaced unit under my tire). But I think I was just speaking to someone new on the job. Because when I sent an email after my first conversation. They responded with my complete satisfaction. I would buy from them again if they still offered the features I look for in a media player.

A great product. I have had mine for about a year now. Sure there's the intial cost to get over when you include the add-ons. But being able to put just about any file format on it pays off in the long run. At 30 Gig, I usually carry about 40 1hr tv shows, about 10-12 movies and at least 100 mp3's. While the speaker isn't always as loud as I would like, that can be remedied with either headphones or increasing the volume when converting the file.
I would very much like to upgrade to the newer Archos 5, but I couldn't be happier with this product. It did have some locking up issues in the beginning, but I learned how to avoid them. Lock-ups are easily fixed by hitting the reset button on the bottom of the unit. Actually started carrying around a paperclip for this purpose. Lock-up's usually occured when first turning on the unit. If you remember to hold the power button for at least 5 seconds, this usually does not happen. Also, power the unit on before plugging it in to charge. With the two tips alone, I have gone many months without a single lock-up.
As for quality, the picture is top-notch. There are different display setting you can use. There's also the parental options available. You can effectively protect all your content from being viewed by anyone else with access to your Archos.
If you have the means and want a great portable media player, this is the one.

Hey, well i am quite amazed with this product and its abilities and am about to purchase it, i am writing a run down of cons a pros, first of all i luv the high res screen and the extremely high quality of the build, and this is something i must tell everyone as it was amazingly funny, i was at school and this kid was showing off his pussy i-pod touch he like this is an "i-pod aka the internet", and im like hey kid, check this out, this is the Wi-Fi browsing internet 30 gb touch screen, high(er)-res DVR Wi-Fi Multi-store-Choosing photo-viewing cinema quality video player media-player Multi-tasking Bookmarking toutube watching txting MULTIMEDIA
An I-pod killer, i think not!!!!! Exactly, this is the media-player that is well worth the $$$, it deos everything the i-pod deos plus a BIGGER BETTER screen and more!!!!!!!! and more storage!!!!! Come on, you HAVE to agree this is killing the i-pod and it has more features too!!! But i have too go on theres too many fuetures!!!!!

Customer Review: Perfect in every way, but doesn't come complete

This was the best player i could find and i got it at a VERY good price. I don't know why people have volume problems but i love it, extremely loud in both speaker and headphones. It synced with windows media player perfectly, so im just in loved with it cuase it plays my music and movies and keeps a copy of all my photos, even taking them in the folders i had them in on my hard drive.
But one major problem i have is that you have to pay extra to use the web browser feature ($30) and to use other feature such as internet tv/radio, cinema pack that includes more support of different formats, and a gaming plug-in ($20 for each of these). Sad honestly in a way, but still without them its great, but i might be getting the web browser some time.
*As a added note i'm okay with this model,but the archos 604 model which was only $10 more and ultra slim, but it had half the reselution and i don't think it supported as much format,came with all the plug-ins. The choice is up to you. =P
Would be 10 stars if it had the plug-ins!!! Without it's still the best portable media player.
