Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 8 GB (2nd Generation--without iPhone OS 3.1 Software) [Previous Model]

Customer Review: PDA, Wireless iTunes Remote, Web Browser: Not Just an iPod!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The latest revision of the iPod Touch makes it not just a measly music player.

The multi-touch web browser works great if you're near WiFi. You have a built-in calendar, email client, contacts list and notepad, making it a viable PDA, and the App Store delivers nearly unlimited potential for the device.

There are games in the App Store, of course, but also applications that let you wirelessly control your computer mouse/keyboard, transfer files wirelessly, check news feeds, and even a free "Remote" application that lets you control your Apple TV or iTunes library in tandem with Airport Express (which makes it a cheaper alternative to the $900 Sonos wireless music system).

My wife the medical professional even downloaded an application that lets her check drug interactions!

The point is that the latest iPod Touch and its software have brought the iPod far beyond a simple media player and turned it into a great, flexible tool for both entertainment and potentially business! It will serve your needs for music and video, but it will also take you MUCH further.

Customer Review: i-pod newbie's review
Summary: 5 Stars

I have the 8gb gen2 i-pod touch. I've never owned an MP3 player before. I only use this for music while I walk. It's been great. I've used it in freezing, rainy and hot weather without any problems, even if it sits in a damp pocket. I have a simple leather case with mini-magnets to keep it closed and it keeps it clean and relatively moisture-free. Battery life has been exceptional: 18-22hrs of play per charge. I've recharged it once since Christmas!

I kept the stock earbuds only long enough to compare them with the Sony MDR-series earbuds I bought. Let me tell you, with the stock earbuds, it's like listening to your favorite music on an AM channel. Do yourself a favour and buy aftermarket earbuds. The sound quality is so much better. It's well worth the extra $25 or so to get the full deep-bass sound that the MP3 format offers. Also, make sure your earbuds fit snugly (but not too tight) to get the full dynamic resolution of your music. The Sony earbuds have three different sets of earcones to give you that just-right fit.

Cheers!

Customer Review: Very Glad I Bought This Gadget
Summary: 5 Stars

I've never been a big electronic gadget person but I highly recommend this little device. Music, internet/email and lots of handy and entertaining applications to choose from all in one device is really neat. Quality of sound is great. Safari browser is very handy. The email application lets me access my email accounts without having to go through the browser. I can usually get my messages faster on the Ipod than on my PC. Lots of applications to choose from, many free so there's sure to be lots of handy and entertaining apps to add.

Two final comments: I didn't want or need cell phone service so I did not opt for the Iphone. (I have lots of free wi-fi spots available in my community--the university campus is mostly one big hot spot and most restaurants/coffee shops etc. in town have free wi-fi so I didn't need to pay to get wireless access). Second, if there's one advisory note about the Ipod touch--- it's that the battery life is not that long so you might buy a wall or auto charger just to make sure you don't get caught dead.

Customer Review: Beautiful device - huge leap from my old iPod
Summary: 5 Stars

It's astonishing how quickly technology leaps - I bought an iPod nano when they first came out and was even then amazed by its simplicity and power. Now, only a few years later, and at roughly the same price, the iPod touch is effectively a pocket computer that, by the way, plays songs quite well. We bought this for my son (he saved up half and then got the rest for his birthday). It's pretty amazing. He uses it to plot our car routes, to check the weather, to look up information, and, of course, to play games and listen to music. I told him I remembered when my parents bought one of the old Apple II's and then IIe's and an early Mac. Now there's more power in his pocket than ever dreamed of in those older machines - which were pretty astonishing at the time.

Others have talked about the specs and capacities of this device so I won't add to that. Just adding my take: a handy, fun, and astonishingly powerful little device. Even better, it looks so good and feels so nice in the palm of the hand. It's beautifully designed. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Multi-purpose cool
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted the functionality of the iphone but not the contract associated with it. The 8gig iPod Touch is an amazing device. It plays my music and my video. That can mean TV shows or movies. The iTunes store takes this amazing device to the next level.

In addition to the previously mentioned music and video, you can download a TON of applications. Want to lose weight ? There's an app for that. Want to read e-books on the go ? There's an app for THAT ! Want to pretend you're Luke Skywalker wielding your lightsaber against the dark side of The Force ? Yeah, there's a silly little app for that, too. You can also subscribe to podcasts - audio and video - to entertain and inform you on a host of subjects.

There's also wifi connectivity, a calculator, calendar, and alarm clock. Plus, with the latest version of the OS, we now have copy and paste. This thing honestly gets better with each passing day. Having owned a PDA or two in the past - I can honestly say that this is the best entertainment/organizer tool/toys ever.
