I was very excited to find that I could purchase an iPod touch using my American Express points. I was VERY disappointed to find out, however that my one-year Apple warranty was reduced to six months because of Amazon's negligence. According to Apple, when a third party purchases Apple products for resale and does not sell them in an efficient time frame, the products are supposed to be returned to Apple and have the serial numbers reset in order to update the one-year insurance policy. After several calls to American Express, Apple and Amazon, I expect that I will never get the full warranty on my product and I will never make another purchase from Amazon.Customer Review: Best purchase ever. I am in unhealthily love with this thing. I bought it to replace my old iPod Touch that was stolen which I received used. Unlike many other products, the difference between a used and new iPod Touch is incredible. I'm a huge fan of Apple products and I definitely recommend the iPod Touch to anyone who doesn't already have one. The only thing I remotely dislike is that the battery life could be slightly better. Apple should make options when you purchase for extra length batteries for people who use their iPod a little heavier than most (or maybe they do and I am just unaware of such an offer). Overall a great buy though. Get it. And enjoy it. =)Customer Review: Fun, easy to use

I really love my iPod touch. I like the big screen and being able to go online practically anywhere and use the REAL internet (you're not limited to mobile sites).
Typing took a bit getting used to, but once you do it's pretty fast.
The one thing that's easier with a regular iPod is listening in your car. I say this because when the screen gets dark to save battery, you have to unlock it first, which you do by sliding the graphical slider, and then you can change songs. You can't just press the forward button. So this requires you to look away from the road, which is unsafe, so you can't change songs until a light.

Probably one of the best gadgets I've purchased :)
I purchased this to use it around my house with wifi or public hotspots and it works great! I jailbreak this and installed a GPS software that works better than my actual GPS device!! I just this to make calls to Mexico with vonage, check my e-mail, stream videos from home home server, chat, listen to my last.fm radio, text for free to mexico, take pictures, record videos, watch youtube videos, use it as a webcam, chat,read my rss feeds, read the news,access my computer remotely, play chess etc... all without att service!!! Can it get any better? I thinkg not :)

The current (older) 8GB model Amazon sells is only $254. You can buy the iPod software upgrade from Apple on their website for only $20. Total cost of $274.
The devices are the same, just this one comes preloaded with the software upgrade.
A new 32GB model is also available for those who need more space.
EDIT: As of 02-10-2008, Amazon has increased the price of the current 8GB model to $279. The software upgrade will costs $20. Do the math and see which model is cheaper after final total when you go to purchase as the price seems to flucuate daily.
