Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 8 GB (1st Generation) OLD MODELCustomer Review: In love with the iTouch Summary: 5 Stars
I am a total tech nerd and it's almost shameful how much I spend on tech devices, I started with the Rio when I was 12 and it's been glory ever since. I have had a sidekick, every model iPod etc...so needless to say I am picky about product.
The iTouch seriously blew my socks off. It has a better wi-fi signal than my Mac computer and it's such a "thoughtful" device. It was hell setting up gmail with the uploaded 1.1.4 software so that's just a warning, the gmail directions or "simple set-up" didn't work for me. But now that i figured it out I LOVE it.
The contacts save and when you go to write an email they upload over there, you can program your email to just manualy check when you get on so it doesn't waste the battery, and even better you don't have to pay a monthly phone bill with it! I am seriously the biggest fan of this thing ever.
I am trying to think of lame things about it to warn costumers, I think the lamest thing is having no wall charger or having to switch out my Monster cable for a lower voltage (it will melt your iTouch with too much use). But that's about it.
I think even with the highest expectations you will be pleasantly suprised.
Customer Review: iPod Touch replaced my PDA Summary: 5 Stars
For those who may be interested in acquiring an iPod Touch as a replacement for a PDA, I have found it to be quite useful. The primary function used in this regard is syncing with Microsoft Outlook, which works flawlessly. Now I can check appointments and find those phone numbers for early morning conference calls without waiting 10 minutes for my laptop to boot up.
The new software improves the functionality by adding the notes capability, and I even find myself frequently viewing video podcasts - something I never thought I would use.
The most important functions for me in a portable device are calendar, music, notes, photos, and Audible book playback, all of which this iPod handles very nicely. I have also used the maps feature for driving directions - load it up while on the home WiFi network, then the directions are retained for reference - in a much more useful format than if you print out the directions on Google. Just bring along a navigator, as I would not recommend trying to read the iPod while driving. The same applies to paper maps, of course.
On the downside, the battery life has not been great - less than two hours if actively using WiFi.
Customer Review: Ipod Touch - almost like a companion computer Summary: 5 Stars
I am 52 years old and just received my Ipod Touch a few days ago. Upon opening, I was expecting to see a typical instruction book, that would begin with Congratulations on your Ipod Touch purchase! And would follow with step by step setup instructions. That did not happen. There is a short little setup guide pamphlet. So I was a little confused when I plugged the Ipod usb cable into the computer and the interface for the Ipod did not come up. Upon a little more research online, it seems you have to download Itunes first, install and then the Ipod Touch is activated. Here is a link I found that was very helpful in setting up and explained things well.

After this point, the setup really went very well. Basically with trial and error - but was just plain fun to spend time adding pictures and music. I did add an audio book, that had awesome playback. Setup for my Yahoo address was simple. The Ipod immediately read my wireless internet here at home. I love the Weather, YouTube and Map Connections.
This is an expensive item!! But, with all the wonderful technology included with the Ipod Touch it is well worth it to me.
Customer Review: Love it Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the iPod Touch for about a month. I just took it with me on a business trip and it was magnificent. I was able to keep in touch with my office via e-mail on the Touch; also the e-mail let me see not only the text messages but also attachments; full web browsing for both the conference material and for things to do after hours; I had downloaded various free games to entertain me; I bookmarked links to my travel info; used it as my music player on the plane. It was both an indispensable business tool and a great toy. The App selection is broad and growing daily.
Shortcomings: Very few. Typing with the touch screen keypad is, of course, not as good as a real keyboard - much slower - but the device does compensate by having a fairly robust correction mode - type anything close to the word you want and it auto-corrects to that word. When actively using Wireless, the battery life isn't great. I'd say less than 3 hours of continuous browsing & e-mail, but that's about what you get with a laptop.
Overall, the iPod replaced my laptop for communication purposes and that made me very happy.
Customer Review: It feels like magic! Summary: 5 Stars
Before my iPod touch, I had a Palm Tungsten E, which worked well enough. But after using my iPod touch, the Tungsten feels like the stone ages!
The touch's interface is snappy and snazzy, and it can do a lot as long as you have access to a wireless hotspot. Google maps can pinpoint your location to within a 100 yards, and can route you to your destination, and even has traffic information!
All your contact and calendar information is identical to what's on your Mac (along with photos), and you can also read and write email. And of course you can surf the web too.
How amazing is all this in a tiny package with a reasonable price?
Not everything is perfect though. It'd be nice to have a To-Do list, be able to rate songs, search through contacts, have all applications handle both landscape and portrait display modes (it's a little annoying to be forced into one display mode or another), and yes, hardware volume controls would have been convenient. But overall, I'm really impressed (tickled really) buy how "magical" the experience of using the touch is. 5 stars.
