Customer Review: What's missing (& how to get email in a strange city)
Summary: 5 Stars

The iPod Touch is a great line. I was so happy to get mine when it first came out and still use it constantly. It has been made very useful by a number of great apps. The advantage of getting an iPod Touch is that you only pay for it once, there are no high monthly iphone service fees.

But if you are contemplating purchasing a 1G iPod Touch, you will be missing what the more recent generations have: a speaker and a microphone. Unless you have some very restricted uses anticiapted, i strongly recommend getting a later generation.

Additionally, there are a few things the iPhone has that the Touch line currently does not have (as of this writing):
- camera
- web connectivity even if wifi is not present (by using the cell system)
- gps
- magnetic compass

The last two items are generally needed if you want to play with the new "augmented reality" apps. And lots of mapping and location aware apps (e.g. where is a nearby pizza restaurant?) are disabled on the touches (though there are a few exceptions, e.g. Gaia GPS). However, the touch does triangulate locations based on wifi signals, so if you are in an area with decent wifi coverage, it can figure out where you are anyway (e.g. Paris or Santa Monica California).

Here is a trick for getting and receiving email when you are in a place where you don't have a wifi account. Using the app WifiTrak, set the "Connect and Check" setting to ON. Then as you walk around the area, if it detects an open wifi connection, it will connect and check your email (even if in sleep mode). Then when you sit down for coffee or lunch somewhere, open up your touch, and you will see mail received and sent automatically while you were walking around.

As soon as they release iPod Touches with decent cameras (e.g. better than the nano cameras), I plan to upgrade. If that doesn't happen, I will instead get an unlocked iphone, so that I don't have to pay monthly service fees for it. But in the meantime, the touch is great and has been very useful to me.

Customer Review: Best Multi Media Player Out There
Summary: 5 Stars

First, I'd like to say that everyone who rated this below four stars either is completely crazy or dropped it in a river and are complaining it doesn't work. Apple has always been one step ahead of everyone, e.g. iPhone, App Store, many features on Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) are way advanced compared MS Windows Vista, Apple TV, and other products.

Pros:
Amazing and extremely responsive touchscreen
Downloadable Apps
Big screen that is good for movies and shows
Screen is pretty high resolution and looks good
Internet browser that is not bogged down like on mobiles and gaming systems e.g. Nintendo Wii, PSP
Youtube app that is made specifically for the Touch
iTunes Store built and also App Store with update notifier
Notes, Calendar, Weather, Stocks, Mail, Scientific Calculator, World Clock with Timer and Alarm, and Contacts all built in
Maps App that is able to locate you with okay accuracy
Extremely user friendly interface
Syncing with iPhoto, Mail, iCal, Address Book on Mac computers (too bad for Windows users)
Light Sensor
Wi-Fi connectivity
Good Photo viewer (although photos are slightly blurry when you zoom in all the way)
Built by Apple, which means you will the help you need with the interface and get good service at the stores

Cons:
Sometimes touch screen doesn't respond when you press on a small button (just lick your finger and it will work)
frozen once in the year i have had it and sometimes lags
back can get scratched so get a case
no speaker (new one has a speaker)
keyboard can get annoying

Overall an awesome iPod and PDA so if you can afford it don't go Zune, Archos, Sansa, or Samsung, buy an Apple iPod Touch. No other company can beat it, especially Microsoft with there ridiculous little Zunes.

Customer Review: The BEST Media Player ever created!
Summary: 5 Stars

The iPod Touch...this device is amazing. I have had a while to play with all the features and I have to say that it is a powerhouse. I love all the different things you can do with it. You can use the Safari browser to surf the web in either a portrait style mode or in widescreen. The YouTube application allows you to watch any video on youtube on your iPod Touch. The Weather App continuously recieved updates on any city where weather reporting is possible. The Maps App allows you to find directions for any to and from situation. You can even pinpoint your approximate location using your wireless connection. There are many other apps that are very useful and make the iTouch seem like a PDA when it really is considered a media player. You can even check your email on it as long as there is a compatible connection. Also, if you go to the apple site on your iTouch, you can get additional apps that were created by many other people and are very handy.

Now on to a few of the problems. In my week of using the iTouch, I have experienced some things wrong. First, the wifi. I can't seem to connect to my wireless internet connection but if I go to a pulic hotspot, the connection is flawless. It may be the iPod or it may be something up with my router. Needless to say, there are tons of people with problems with the iTouch's wifi. Most people say it is something with the router's setting while other say that their problem was fixed when restoring the iTouch. I shall call Apple today and fix this problem.

So, overall...the iTouch is a must buy. And depending on how much money you have to spend, I would get this version since it is cheaper than the 8GB version without the software upgrade (which includes some left out apps that the iPhone has).

I definitely recommend this product. Get it and you shall love it. :-)

Customer Review: Nearly perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

Apple did a great job with the Touch. Its sleek, light weight, and easy on the eyes. I thought the touch screen and motion sensitive controls would be a novelty but they're anything but.

Pros:

Ease of use: I'd never used any of the Pods before (I'd used Sansa Players before), but after watching a couple of tutoral videos I quickly got the hang of it.

The APP Store: Wow. These apps make the Itouch more than an just an MP3 player, its a mini computer.

The Screen: Is made of a heavy duty glass that is scratch resistant, enough said.

Cons:

I-Tunes: You're pretty much stuck using I-Tunes.

Headphones: Could they have possibly made more uncomfortable ear buds? I also wonder why they made the buds white when the player is black and silver? My advice is to buy something better, Apple needs to redesign these earphones. My Final gripe is that the headphone jack is on the bottom of the player.

The 2.0 update: I spent over $200 on this I-Pod and they want me to pay $10 for a software upgrade? This is the reason I've been reluctant to buy Apple products, they really like to squeeze every dime they can outta you.

The APP Store: They have alot a nice stuff on there, but an awful lot of it is overpriced.

Overall this is a fantastic player, most of the cons are minor. I'm still miffed over being asked to spend $10 for an update, I've never had to pay for one with any of my previous electronics. Apple is making plenty charging for the apps themselves there was no reason to charge so much for the upgrade.

Customer Review: The best Apple product I've bought
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this product two weeks ago and ship it to Bolivia (South America), so I had to wait longer than usual (one week and a half for arrival), but believe me, all of this waiting time is worth. What I received was a perfectly made box, then I open up the box, the quality is perfect, I love my iPod Touch display, is so big, also the touch screen is perfect. Finding music now is very easy, you can fast scroll to your artist's name alphabetically, when you twist the device you see the Cover Flow which is great. The Safari browser is so cool, so easy to browse the web, you pinch with your fingers and you zoom any page. The battery duration listening about 2-3 hours of music during the day is about 3-4 days, 8 GB it's fine for me as all my music and some music videos takes only 4 GB. I also converted some Simpsons episodes, I recommend to use Nero as I tried with other converters (Xilisoft) and Nero creates an almost-perfect video, very small and well synced image and sound. Everything is so well designed in this product, every little detail is so planned that you'll be amazed, I recommend you to buy the Griffin case, it looks great and comes with a free display-protector for scratches and dust. Well, I had the iPod nano 8GB but replaced it with this great product, and have no regrets at all, touch technology is so amazing and so sexy that all the people who sees it they don't believe that we've come so far, now I think touching is the technology revolution!!
