Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) [Previous Model]Customer Review: Great for a College Student Summary: 5 Stars
I am in my last semester studying mechanical engineering, and since I am on campus nearly every day all day this iPod has made life much easier. Now, whenever I am on campus (since there is free wifi for students) I always have the internet no further away than my pocket. I can check my course grades online, and was even able to setup imap for my school email so that I can check my email anywhere I have a wifi signal!
As an mp3 player it works very well and does everything I have come to expect from my 2nd generation iPod and a whole lot more (an awesome color display, and the geneius feature, which is pretty handy).
I use this iPod as much more than an mp3 player and an internet access tool though (both of which justify the nearly $300 price tag). It works great as a day-timer and the calender sinks with my outlook events, appointments, and contacts. The applications that you can get online also make this device extremely useful, i.e. the unit converter and the resistor color band program.
Overall this iPod is pretty awesome. It is way more than an mp3 player though, and if all you need is something to play music I would be apt to purchase either the iPod classic or the nano (because of the cheaper price). However, if you ever think you might like having access to the internet when you are in a wifi zone, or think you might like having an electronic organizer (PDA?) all in the same device I would definately go with the iPod touch.
Customer Review: Simply THE BEST Summary: 5 Stars
Over the years I've had several "smart phones"... recently Windows Mobile based devices. And while they were all OK, they always had quirks, performance challenges, or weren't responsive enough. I had avoided the iPhone simply because I thought it was more of a toy... boy was I ever wrong.
This device by far is the best mobile "smart phone" I've ever used. Sure it took a little time to adjust to the touch keyboard, but after a week me and my fat fingers were completely adjusted. Apple has done an excellent job of making user experience #1! All of the screens and option are exactly where you'd expect them to be. I've had no problem configuring any of the features.... want WiFi on... no problem. Want to dial a friend... two clicks of the main button and my favorites list comes up. Sync with Outlook, FLAWLESS.
I could go on and on about the features, but that's not the half of it. The Apps (short for applications) available in the App Store (yes, very easy to find... even my mother was using it in less than 5 minutes) are simply amazing. I'm a professional who travels extensively. I've downloaded several apps that make my life easy. Find a hotel on the fly... done, get directions, DONE...... find a restaurant... EASY .... check email, text messages, voice mails ... Done, done, and DONE !
I reccomend this product for everyone. Once you start using the iPhone you'll never be able to go back.
Customer Review: absolutely OUSTANDING! Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought a 2nd generation iPod Touch from Mister Money, who is a 3rd party merchant I was connected to through my search of the device on Amazon. For some reason, even though we knew it was a used item, we thought the price given for the device was the proverbial "too good to be true". Nevertheless, after researching the return and protection policy on both Mister Money AND Amazon, we ordered it. We opted for regular shipping for $4.99 and received our product no less than 4 days after ordering it. WE WERE AMAZED! It arrived in almost pristine condition, already updated to iOS 4, (we've since updated to iOS 4.1, after restoring the device to factory settings through my iTunes, with absolutely NO hassle), with a mini USB cord and a very durable protective rubber case. There are VERY minor smudges on the back, which is, more or less, a non-issue because of the case. The front of the device is one of the reasons why I felt compelled to write a review on Amazon (which is a long time coming, considering the fact that we've bought numerous items {a webcam, blu-ray player, MANY eBooks, etc} and are ALWAYS satisfied.) It was in PERFECT condition. I was shocked. I was expecting to see at least minor abrasions or scratches, simply due to prior use, and when I wiped the screen clean - IT LOOKED BRAND NEW and it works PERFECTLY! Thank You Mister Money and Thank You Amazon! You are simply unrivaled, as always.
Customer Review: Awesome, almost... Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this for a few weeks, since I found that ATT would still require the $27US/mo new iPhone data plan... my price point is about $15/mo. Coming from many years of Palm Treo/Centro, the Touch is really fun. I'm keeping it! Hopefully conversion will be easy if I upgrade to iPhone someday...
Pros:
- It didn't take long to get used to the keyboard
- It converted my Rhapsody tunes straight to iTunes (needed to redo playlists, but that's OK)
- I downloaded about 35 free apps, plus some mp3 free audiobooks, podcasts, books, and travel guides.
- WiFi is FAST
- Synchs to Outlook well (altho MS Outlook costs $, but that's a WinCrap issue)
- Good mp3 sound
- Upgrade ($10) synchs Notes (my Palm Tasks, but needed to redo groups)
- iTunes is more user-friendly than Rhapsody
Cons:
- I had to download a Contact app for groups: shame on Apple for not including this! At least the download app was free.
- The Calendar isn't robust (like Palm's): I need repeat selection for 'the last Wed of the month' or 'the 1st Tues of the month'.
- The Calendar doesn't show colors (per deceptive ads) like Palm does.
- No FM radio
- No Bluetooth (to send phone numbers to my mobile phone)
- Covers (mp3 flipbook) only works with iTunes purchases (deceptive ads!)
Customer Review: Absolutely love it Summary: 5 Stars
I have been extremely happy with my Touch. I use it daily at the gym, at home, in the car. I upgraded from a 2 GB nano and I really love all the music I can have with me. I also have my favorites movies to help pass the time on the treadmill, the Kindle app so I always have a book with me, an app that allows me to send text messages and a few games. I'm just starting to use the calendar function, but I love having it all in one place. I am so impressed with it that I almost want to get an iPhone, but I refuse to switch my cell carrier. My only annoyance is the battery life. It's really poor. I found an app that tells me approximately how much time I have left depending on what I am doing (movies, music, etc.). I've gotten used to the issue and it's only a minor annoyance for me personally. I keep it docked when I'm not using it and I found a package through an Amazon affiliate that was all of about $10 for a retractable data cable, wall charger, car charger and silicone case with armband. I just keep the charger pieces in my purse so I have them whenever I need them. In the month I've had it, I think there has been only one time that I wasn't able to use it because the battery died. Not bad considering how much I use it. Buying the Touch was a real splurge for me and I don't regret it one bit!
