Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Not designed for runners Summary: 2 Stars
I own two other iPods that are wonderful. I own a 1gb shuffle that is as close to "bulletproof" as any electronic device I've owned. Only problem with the 1gb is it's only 1gb. I also own a 16gb Nano for travel and the car and occasional workouts. I purchased my first 4gb shuffle last month and am very disappointed with this player.
I just returned the 3rd 4gb Shuffle to Wal-Mart last night. Fortunately, all three have died within the first two weeks so I'm not waiting on Apple to fix this piece of junk. Same problem - the headphone switch stops working. I run 3x/week and cycle on off-running days (I don't use it on my bike). I guess it was not designed for people to work out with which seems silly based on the size and specifications.
If you don't work out with your ipod it might be OK, but I really don't think the headphone switch was designed to be very robust. You also can't play it in your car through the AUX input.
Guess I'll pick up a 2Gb 2nd gen on e-bay...
Customer Review: iPod Shuffle 4GB 3rd Gen - BEWARE! Summary: 2 Stars
Unfortunately, I joined the growing group of new owners whose Shuffle's in-line controls failed after only a couple workouts. Apparently sweat runs down the right line and enters the control housing. The results vary but mine was a loss of volume (to the minimum...3 orange blinks) and no control at all by squeezing any of the three pressure points. Given that this is your only way to control the Shuffle, the device becomes useless in short order. Apple did not do sufficient field trials before releasing this product. Too bad....striking design and portability gone to waste (along with my money!)
Customer Review: Controls are only on the headphone cord? Oh no! Summary: 2 Stars
Anything that makes me touch the headphones while running on the treadmill at the gym will cause me to yank them out of my ears. I prefer having the controls on the device. The headphones are precarious enough when I'm at the gym. Once they're in, I avoid touching them. Also, this means I can't swap in different headphones but rather need a proprietary set. I think it's a mistake to move the controls to the headphones. I predict that this latest generation will have a short life, and Apple will go back to the 2nd generation design very soon...after all, why mess with a winner?
Customer Review: Works - sort of... Summary: 2 Stars
Basic playback works, but playlist selection is buggy or non-functional for a lot of people.
Go read the Apple Support forums before you consider purchasing since there appear to be a lot of problems and the speculation ranges from software bugs to hardware problems with the headphones.
I broke my rule of buying new electronics within 6 months of launch, and out of the box, mine had problems too.
Customer Review: Locked into shuffle headphones Summary: 2 Stars
I'll keep this short. The product works great and looks great. However, the lack of buttons on the drive is a major flaw. I'm not a huge fan of the earbuds and I can't share my music through my car stereo. Please bring the buttons back in the 4th gen.
